Clutch chatter?
Clutch chatter?
There's times where I will put the car in reverse and when I start to release the clutch while giving it a little bit of gas, the car will vibrate and stutter as if the clutch is chattering... It's even worse when trying to drive in reverse up my damned driveway or any other slight hill. I've even tried just giving it some gas before hand and then doing a quick release of teh clutch thinking I might be accidentally slipping the clutch, causing the chatter and that doesn't make a difference.
Any ideas? Anyone else experience this?

I notice it mainly if I am backing out of a parking spot and give it gas - it does not seem to be an issue when I back out of my driveway, so perhaps for me the issue is level ground ( parking lot ) vs a slope ( driveway ).
Mine does not do this in first, so I chalk it up to a quirk of reverse gear.
The more I think of it, the issue is more speed than anything else 'cuz I do remember this happening on level ground as well if the speed in reverse was greater than ~ 5 MPH - that's a guess.
Maybe there is an extra bit of play in our trannys that only shows itselfs in reverse ?
I am not gonna sweat it any more than I am the occasional bump from the trunk. I am not going fast in reverse all that often.
As in this example.

....what the hell do you guys mean by mega shake/chattering? I give it enough gas, engage the clutch and back the car out. If you're shaking you need to give it more gas but not retarded amounts. If you have severe chattering and are giving it enough gas chances are you've glazed the clutch or your flywheel is heat scored from improper clutch engagement during normal driving.

Reverse gear ratio in these cars is pretty tall. Meaning if you think you can just let the clutch all the way out in reverse and back up at 3MPH, you will bog the engine badly and that will result in bucking/stalling. 3MPH in reverse is 500RPM. The engine is NOT going to like that at all, and its not good for it.
If you want to back up slowly, you basically have to feather the clutch at the engagement point while applying the appropriate amount of gas. If you are backing up for a long distance at over 6MPH, then you can let the clutch all the way out, because you will be at 1,000RPM or greater.

Appreciate everyone's insight!
