Cobalt ss T/C exhaust popping after 5k?

Put a 3" MPX catback exhaust with a ZZP catted DP on my '09 T/C. Now when I floor it in second, after 5k my exhaust starts popping and wont reach redline as fast due to the popping. Also, it throws a CEL once it's starts popping. Any suggestions on what it might be? Or how to fix? Thanks.

Sounds like the car is breaking up/misfiring. Pull the code for starters.

check the code and most likely you need new plugs. if you're tuned you may need to get a revision since you went from stock piping to 3"

Plugs are less than 1k. Autozone read "random cylinder misfire" but the car does not feel like it. Until it start popping. Any ideas?

put stock plugs in and get a tune, having that many mods with a stock tune is stupid. intake messing with your fuel trims could be playing a role.

Is it weird that it only pops at high RPM's? Or is that something blown plugs do?

lnf's run factory spark plugs period! change them about every 10k miles and with that amount of mods get a tune NOW. not only will your car run like it's supposed to but you'll gain around 70whp and about 100wtq.

Running rich at WOT due to power enrich + hot exhaust temps = boom in exhaust

Do you know what the code is? If you don't there is no reason not to own this:

Koolertron F-12 ELM 327 OBDII PC Car Diagnostic Scanner : Amazon.com : Automotive Koolertron F-12 ELM 327 OBDII PC Car Diagnostic Scanner : Amazon.com : Automotive

and download Torque or another OBD scanner app on the smartphone I'm assuming you have

try seafoaming the car....

also, check plugs see what they look like...

also get a tune. if budget is your problem. get a budget trifecta tune.

your problem sounds like detonation which is the worst thing possible for our cars... but very common as well...
i don't think just putting an exhaust on will cause this problem..

I had about 9k on my car with a trifecta tune on 93, i was beating on it for about 30 minutes straight in 95 degree weather and right after 5k it did the same thing. As soon as i let it cool down i took it back out and it drove perfect.... i think it has something to do with the exhaust temps, or maybe IAT's and the car retarding the timing... i never threw a code though
