Cold Air Intake Problems

Just curious as to what kind of problems someone could run into by running an aftermarket intake on the factory tune, other than no power gains because of Learn Down. I understand the gains will be limited, but would it put my car into Limp Mode or anything?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Gains will be non-existent. Get a downpipe if you want faster turbo spool, but don’t want get a tune. Liabilities include limp mode and check engine codes. The MAF sensor is picky and the ECM makes a lot of decisions based on how much air is coming into the engine. Some intakes skew this critical reading.

what he said!! i put my hahn cai intake on in the heat of summer with no tune and car ran fine for 5months till we got our first front and temp change which caused my car to go into limp mode or rather just no boost. got a tune and problem free. don't listen to some of the ass clowns on here who will say you will hydrolock your motor. YOU DESERVE TO HYDROLOCK YOUR MOTOR IF YOU DRIVE THROUGH FLOODS,MEANING ANYTHING GREATER THAN A FOOT OF WATER!! SMH driving in regular rain is fine.

I had Hahn CAI on my car for 10 months before I got tuned and never had any issues related to the intake. dont know what issues the other guys were having but you will not see any gain without a tune.

Every intake will skew fuel trims without a tune, some less than others but all will.

Actually.... The tradstone intake doesn't skew trims much at all. And they even offer one with a honeycomb air straightener in it... Or they used to anyways. The oooonly thing is because oiled gauze doesn't deal with water very well you are gonna be cleaning sensors if it gets wet. And that goes for every cold air system out there.

I have some minor fuel trim skews with my AEM but it runs great and sounds great and I have no limp mode issues.

So do I need to tune my 2008 Cobalt SS T/C after installing a cold air intake, because I keep getting cel with the code P0101 MAF. And don't get any boost but maybe sometimes or just 5PSI. So I'm asking what should I do?

Welcome to , start a new thread about your issues, or read through others to figure out the issue.

If you click here -->https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-0l...-codes-140216/ you can look up the code you're throwing (which I'm bored so) your maf is probably dirty. No idea what CAI/SRI you are running (that information is important hence a new thread or find a thread specific to your intake) try cleaning the maf and see if that fixes things.

Go back to the main 08-10 SS Turbocharged General Discussion sub-forum, and on top of all the thread titles on the left side should be a button/box that says new thread. Click that and use a descriptive title, all information about your car (mods/aftermarket parts) will help a lot. Cheers
