Drag Strip VHT problems

Has anyone had a problem with their new 08-09 tc having stallout problems off the line with the launch control on or traction control turned off??

My tc almost completly dies out off the line when it's on VHT. On regular assphault the launch control dump just spins the tires through first. Any suggestions etc??

It shouldn't have launch problems only on VHT though. VHT causes more traction and thus less wheel spin. my 08 tc just kinda... falls off on its face off the line

Leave at a higher rpm get it spooled up. Or get some more low end torque.

Yeah you need to get out of the low RPMS at launch.

So don't launch at 5grand and instead maybe 3grand, essentially? I've only been driving a stick for as long as i've had my balt.... *looks in a mirror and points at the retarded newb*

But, what I'm really wanting to know is... why does it stall out on VHT?

Yeah it should not do that. It just sounds like you are dropping the clutch and bogging the car. You need to have proper pressure on gas pedal and clutch slip. It's a fine line to walk but not terrible.

truth, this is what I need to do, I was bogging like a **** my first time at the strip, too much traction, not enough power

Don't dump the clutch and the car won't dump on you. There is no reason to ever launch above 3000rpm unless you WANT to spin like crazy for fun.

Launch between 2000-3000 rpm, let the clutch out gradually but smoothly. Keep track of how much spinning is going on and find the spot to control it, then fully release the clutch (this all happens within 1-3 seconds)

I am actually supprised that it is possible to get too much traction with a turbo FWD car. To the OP if you are using the launch control stop. Rev to 2500-3000 and slip out the clutch dont just dump it and you will get better results.

Sure, but does the traction actually cause it to bog down and almost stall out? Too much air not enough gas, too much gas not enough air? I went to school for cars, granted i graduated 4 years ago and havn't done any work since then... God my memory sucks ***** -_-

When you are spinning on the street, the RPMs stay high, so the engine keeps making a lot of power. The increased traction at the dragstrip causes the RPMs to drop too low and out of the power band. Engaging the clutch gradually as you launch will keep the RPMs high enough to avoid this problem.

Are you running the stock tires at the track? If so, I'm surprised you get enough traction to make much of a difference. Usually street tires don't do any better at the track than they do on the street- sometimes worse.

Hehe, yeah I've got the stock tires on there. No point in making any changes unless I have to or until my warrenty runs out, ya know? I've already torn the intercooler out once and managed to get them to warrenty it for me >.>

So far my fastest 1/4mile has been a 14.8. Keep in mind I had only been driving a stick for like... two weeks then and our dragstrip is at over 5k feet. It's one of the highest, if not the highest strip in the country... That 14.8 was with the tires spinning through first as well. I think the entire strip was impressed with the 08tc. Don't think they had seen one before ^-^

Get HP tuners and turn the torque limiting off in 1st gear, its pretty limited below 4000 RPM in first; this might help quite a bit.

Just went out for a small spin. Where I live it's CRAWLING with cops so you have to be super carefull where you play around... Tried letting out the clutch a bit slower as you guys have said. Was a much smoother launch than just taking my foot off the gas. Even with the 5k launch the stock tires barelly chirped.

God I suck at driving a stick *sooooo needs to get better*

if you have been only driving stick for 2 weeks the last place you should be is sitting in the staging lanes at a drag strip. mastering driving a standard trans takes time. no offense but im sure u are doing nothing but harm to your car learning how to drive at a strip

hehe. Have to learn to launch somewhere... And with the 100k warrenty on the drive train i'm pretty safe. That and I really baby my car now that I'm better. Hardly ever get into the turbo, let it sit and idle for 10-20sec before I shut the engine off. Wash it once a week by hand if it's warm enough. Full synth every 4k miles (granted it's only got 6k miles on it...)

Trust me, I baby my baby, ya know? Hell, I'm getting like 27-28mpg in the city >.>

Everytime I used the launch control at the track my car would bog down to idle and almost stall out. Don't use the LC and try leaving from 2500rpm while slipping the clutch.
