Need some advice , picked up a 08 hhr Ss . From what I've read I should be able to tune this car for e47 with no fuel upgrades other then injector seals eventually correct ? I'm looking into tuning it and contacted zzp through email they stated I need all sorts of things to run e47 , kinda confused as I thought I've read otherwise .. also anyone have any recommendations on were to get tuned ? Really only have herd of trifecta and zzp and seem to got some bad feedback on trifecta .. Thanks for the help

 

well if you sell the parts then you're def going to recommend getting more. Just tuning a stock car for e47 is do-able, but there are certain mods you should def look into prior to the tune. At a minimum a hot side charge pipe (also called the upper on this car) and an intercooler.

Intake and downpipe are up to you, if you have emissions (depending on how they do them) then just leave the downpipe, it doesn't really become a restriction until you go bigger turbo.

 

yea i I have a intake waiting to go on , and I was going to do a catless dp , intercooler and upper pipe I wasnt planning on however . At least not right away .

 

When I asked zzp, they told me I needed upgraded fuel lobe cams and opels or something like that. Not necessary. Just trying to make a sale.

 

They are partly trying to make a sale and partly trying to make your car run better and more reliably.

The stock fuel system is limited so if you want to rune E47 in stock form, it's possible but you will need to limit power to keep from overworking your fuel pump.

As mentioned above, intake and downpipe is a good idea any way you go.

Option 1 - get an E47 tune with torque spike turned down and limited HP up top. Still a nice gain
Option 2 - Get just the upgraded cam and E47 tune, will allow for more power than option 1.
Option 3 - Get upgraded cam, tune and opel injectors for much higher numbers. Will also upgrade the seals for use with ethanol.

Also, you can blend weird ratios like E30 and still get good horsepower without changing the fuel system.

Basically you need to decide what kind of power you want and how much you want to spend.

 

Like others have said for reliability getting an intercooler would help. Especially if you are getting tuned for 22-25psi. If you ramp the boost you are ok on e47 and stock cam and injectors. I've been running it a couple of years. You don't gain a lot on factory turbo even going e-85 with a fuel lobe cam. Bigger turbo yes, stock no. My turbo is just a slightly bigger wheel in the stock turbo and I don't run out of fuel. Get yourself an ethanol tester as you will need to test.

 

Don't add a single thing to the car and just tune it with ethanol. I've had massive success with ethanol tune only cars - 4 of them to be exact.

If something breaks, replace it.

 

They are trying to get you to buy there stuff. Bigger fuel cam lobe is not necessary for the stock turbo. The Opel injectors pair nicely with the bigger cam lobe and are Ethanol friendly but really all you need are injector seals that are ethanol friendly. You will not run out of fuel on the stock turbo with E47 in high rpms.. maybe E85.

If you go bigger turbo, get the fuel cam lobe and the open injectors.

 

Or just stay on 92-93 with a bigger turbo.

 

Kind of off-topic but I have a 2.4 SS that I want to convert to e47 I have read a lot about people doing the e85 and having to replace injectors do I need to do it if I'm running e47. The only reason I ask is because I Race circle track and it has to be Chevy on Chevy part so could I get injectors off of an HHR? Thank you guys

 

I run full e85 on my 2.2 with stock injectors. Youll be fine with e47.

 

e47 requires about 7-9% more fuel so if you have the capacity with the stock injectors you'll be fine. Not sure what injector comes stock in the LE5

 

Le5 comes with the same injector as the l61. 28# i believe

 

I believe that is WhT I gathered as well and there pretty much maxed out. So I would have to move up to a bigger injector I think.

 

Scan the car on gas and see what the injector duty cycle is

I can hit 90% idc but that doesnt bother me. Even at stoich and 26* it doesnt knock.

 

You just want to make sure you have ethanol friendly seals on your injectors. The Opels come with them. The stock LNF injectors eventually will rot off.

I have found this before but am now having trouble finding again. In hp tuners what would I set for under the injector table to run e47? Or can someone guide me to the right area
