Stage 2 was good for about 25whp. And not all LSJs were created equal. Some couldn't make the hp with stage 2 that others saw stock.

Hey! I'm new here, and old, so go easy on me till I get the hang of things here. I'm probably a little premature on this site but my 09 Red Tintcaot SS Sedan has been on order since 8/12 and I thought I'd get a head start on the available knowlege and where to spend my money on my new Cobalt when it finally gets here. I read here the sedans were starting to show up at dealers already so maybe my dealers guesstimate of a mid Sept. delivery isn't too far off. There's a lot of great information on your site. I'm soaking it all in.

I come from a motor head family so when my nephew offered up a challenge with his modified EVO his father, my brother, and I just had to take action. Any body want to buy my LS1 powered 88 Fiero GT? It did it's job. Now I need a human car. One that with limited mods will spank him again. My brothers mountain motored 72 Chevelle is still in the rotisserie and won't be available till spring time. I think he's decided to SHOW instead of GO. I'd like to spank him too with my front wheel drive Cherry Bomb.

Stevo, if you're reading this maybe you can tell me if your schedule has a stop in, or near, FL around the end of Sept. And any bolt ons that would work well with your map. I like the idea of the extra ECU. Just don't buy it at the dealership that will be doing the warranty work on your car. Those parts and service departments DO talk back and forth.

Just wanted to say hello. HELLO!! Now I gotta go.

just how modified is this evo your nephew has? depending on what he has done it will either be possible or not just yet possible depending on what it would take to over turn the obvious lead the evo will have at the line. If it is just bolt-on's with very little machincal upgrades maybe a light tune it shouldn't take too much ... unless said nephew can't launch off the line or doesn't wanna break something in which case it would probably just take a tune.

I have a stop in Florida being planned for mid-late October. Either Tampa Bay or Jacksonville.

The nephew is a chip off his old mans "big" block. The EVO has upgraded turbo (twice), big injectors, intercooler, exhaust, cams, removed balance shafts, NOS, alcohol inj., ground effects, etc. etc. And he does all his own ECU work. The first time he ran it at Englishtown, NJ my brother (the import HATER) swore the kid would never get into the 12s. Second run 12.97 @ 106. And that was before most of the mods mentioned here. He has since gotten it into the mid 11s. My brother won't tell me exactly. He's on Long Island and I'm in Florida. He doesn't want to talk about it. And the kid still drives the kids to school in the morning and runs to the store for beer in it. It's just not right!

I just reread this and decided to keep the Fiero just in case.

But with all I'm reading about the SS/TC it would definitely be doable. Maybe a little pricey but doable.

I've downlaoded and printed all the GM Sport Compact Build Books and 600 HP out of the STOCK 2.0 Ecotech block and heads is relatively easy. TRhey even give you the part number and sources. And not too expensive considering 600 HP. Sleeve the block and you can go to 1200 HP. But I believe the Sweden transmission would be the weak link in this package. But I also have the 4T65E trans build book. It leads you by the hand, with part numbers and all, in building that trans to handle 900 HP.

I wish I had been born into money so I could spend more time building my "wet" dreams and not wasting so much time having to work for it.

That would be great except I have a grandaughter's 2nd birthday the middle of Oct. Not to worry. I know where I can find you and when I get back to FL in late OCT the weather will be just right for a ride to wherever you are at the time. We WILL do business! Bank on it!

It will be a Florida trip for sure. Not sure on the city. I will be out there doing tuning. Strictly business, no play.

1st WELCOME & good luck

removed balance shafts, what does this do? Doesn't this hurt the crank bearings? I thought they are there for a reason. Yes I'm dumb

The way he explains it they are there more to make the car more civilized at idle than having anything to do with performance. It takes horsepower to turn those things and he doesn't mind having to belt up to stay in the seat at the starting line if it means a tad more usable horsepower.

can't imagine it takes so much that it would be a considerable parasitic loss

I guess it amounts to how much vibration your hands are willing to take on the steering wheel. It wasn't untill I finally quit riding Harleys that I learned what it was like to have feeling in my hands.

He had a spare engine down and decided if it didn't shorten the engine's life to any degree why have them in there wasting ANY horsepower. Engine builders go to great extremes, and expense, to find tiny traces of horse power. This little bit is already there. Why not make it available to the wheels. I'm really not into imports either so I don't know if this is a common modificatiion for the EVO or not. The nephew says he really can't feel the difference in the seat of the pants but he takes satisfaction in knowing that little bit of power is not being wasted tn the name of creature comforts. I DO know that little car goes like the hammers of hell with no apparent downsides so I'm now arguing with him.

Somebody asked if he was afraid to lite up all 4 wheels? It's quite something to watch in the water box.

so he will have no issue with dumping the clutch, sounds like you may be in trouble, you may be equal to power vs weight when your done modifying but your gonna play catch up off the line probably have to get drag radials as well.

Yeah! I know you're right but dreaming doesn't cost a cent. I'll still have the Fiero that, with a tune up and some happy gas, will humble and embarass him.

If you have the wheels from yoru sig I don't think they safely clear the TC brake calipers FYI. It's a paper tight fit.
