a good idea?

first off...HI. first post (its late, im sorry if this is in the wrong section or if my grammar is bad. im from saint louis, mo by the way)

now to the topic at hand...

i have been looking around the forum for a few weeks. i think i NEED a cobalt. i would love a cobalt sedan ss/tc automatic. this is where the problem starts. i know that the sedan ss is rare and automatic isnt made. i love automatics though. and i love sedans. i currently have a 03 cav ls coupe. i like the convenience of 4 doors for passengers mostly and theres only like 50 lbs weight difference. after discussing this with my friend who is really into cars versus me who knows computers, not cars. we decided that the best and easiest way to accomplish my goal is to get a regular cobalt sedan and swap engines for the ss/tc and then swap out for an auto tranny.

sounds like a lot of work but it would be a better car then my cav and id be more proud of it.

any thoughts guys?

If you just want an auto tranny why would you buy a car to swap in an LNF (HUGE job) just to swap trannys? This would be a HUGE job and will be verrrrrry pricey, best bet would to be to buy an HHR SS.

There's a local guy that did an LNF swap with his SS/SC. He basically had to replace every wiring harness and engine part in the car. He said he wouldn't recommend it.

What you can do is slap a supercharger on an LS and end up with around 260WHP (SS/TC power) like Stenguyen1 did.

Another option is going turbo on say a 2.4 (05-07 "SS" 4 door or 08 "Sport") and get even bigger power, but I don't hear as much about that. It would get you the automatic though.

260whp is pretty much pushing it for a 2.2 though.

If you want new, auto, LNF, 4 door look at the HHR SS's.

PS, the Lancer Ralliarts are pretty nice, sport tronic with paddle shifters, turbo 2.0, AWD...

HHR SS is the way to go. Getting an LNF with an automatic otherwise is WAY more trouble than it's worth.

...Or just learn to drive stick .

Learning to drive a stick really isn't that hard. Have someone you know who has one take you out and teach you to drive it. Only took me about an hour to pick it up with a friend teaching me to drive it. Then you will be able to drive any car you want in the future. Trust me it's a good feeling. You get used to it after a while and don't even have to think about it. Or just take the lazy route and buy an HHR SS. They're pretty fast and look good too.

i know the basics of driving with stick. i am just usually doing something with my hands other than driving two on the wheel. i.e. smoking or phone. ill quit smoking WHILE driving with a new car though.

so i guess it would be easier to just go the stick route. with that being said, whats the best route for a 4 door ss/tc. i heard they are very expensive to get and kind of rare. id assume get a regular sedan cobalt and turbocharge it. anyone know approx how much money that would cost?

im basically looking to get around 260whp since thats what a regular ss/tc will get anyways and i cant afford to go over 300whp with the cost of it all.

...im very sorry if i dont use correct terminology but im learning and just now getting into cars. please correct anything i say if needed.

thanks

You're down in STL, so if you're willing to make the drive check out this car up here in Des Moines:

http://www.shottenkirkchevy.net/Vehi...ails/442683103

That dealer has literally had that car for about 14+ months now. Let me put it this way, that car was on the lot the same time I bought my coupe 3/5/2009. As I recall my and this sedan came in the same batch to the dealer in Nov 2008 lol. Last time I was at the dealer they actually had it inside the showroom next to a Corvette instead of wasting away out on the lot like it had been.

I bet they'd about ******* give you that car, because I got mine for really cheap... but that was a year ago when GM was looking like it might fold. I wanted that car instead of my coupe, but didn't want black.

The 2009 model year was the only one with the SS/TC sedan being offered, so search 2009 models.

so how does this sound to everyone...
a 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS Sedan. 54k miles. SS package. 2.4L Ecotec motor.

Then after a few months of saving money, put
this
on it. id rather a stage 3 but i havent seen one for the 2.4L engine.

all of it for about $10k. My friend and i will put on the turbokit with his dad who has done these things before so im not paying for install.

thoughts?
