I have a stupid question to ask

So, I have a 2010 cobalt SS. And I only put 93 in it from Shell, Exxon, or Bp. So I know you want to keep good gas in it. But I live in Wilmington, NC and hurricane season is coming up. And it’s supposed to be bad this year. My power is going to go out 100% possibly for weeks. So I bought a power inverter so I can still use my laptop to get work done. I love how the battery is in the trunk because you can connect and run it straight thru the backseat without doing any surgery.

So my question is will I damage my car if I put 87 in my car and only let it idle? When the power goes out I plan to only use it as a power generator so I’ll basically let it idle until it runs out of gas.

No, you should be fine. Anything less than premium only becomes a problem when you throw boost and/or timing at it.

EDIT: I mean you'll be good as far as using 87. I would personally be a bit leery of only idling the car in my driveway for hours at a time.

I agree, idling for hours on end might not be the best for the car. I would go get a cheap generator now, before any hurricanes hit. The small generators will use way less fuel than your car will, you could even get a slightly larger one to run a computer and a window AC unit.

Agree with the above. Go to your local Harbor Freight and get one of these. Only $125 and sounds like it will do everything you need it to. Maybe even more.
