inter cooler problem

so yesterday i was leaving the jobsite...

as usual i have to drive over...not in the ruts left in the frozen mud...

i always go slow and take my time...

on the way home i hear this awful grinding sound, get of the x way and look i see nothing...

decided to stay on the side roads to get home...hear the noise again look again and i see what was causing it...

this was hanging down...(the piece under the intercooler...

i rigged it up as best as i could...and went to dealer...

the only thing i can think is, that though i go as slow as i can, i must have hit a frozen rut and broke the tab that holds the part under the intercooler, to it...

but because this tab is a integral part of the end of the intercooler the whole thing has to be replaced....

because it was not a faulty part, that means out of pocket!!...replacement cost of $697.00

i just checked gm parts direct..msrp of 285.30...their price 169.14

does that mean like 400.00 something for labor?

.

What part of Michigan are you in? We are in Grand Rapids. We have a low-mileage IC from our 08 SSTC and we can install it for very little $. We could probably give you something for yours if it's repairable. Let me know if you are interested.

Last week my cousin and I successfully JB Welded the meeting point between the metal and the plastic endtanks on the top-mount aftercooler on his Subaru Legacy. It's been known to be a weak point and... I can't tell from the pictures but it may be possible to do similar temporary fix.

A coworker has a "temporary fix" for his power steering hose on his 200,000 mile Windstar. The two clamps and a seven-inch rubber fitting have been holding up for three years now. (The guy paid three-hundred bucks for the van. What do you expect?)

Our aftercooler in pristine condition is seemingly flimsy, on top of the plastic end tanks. If you put your hand and tap the bottom, that metal piece isn't snug and is held together by a screw (I think) on one side and a rubber gasket on the other.

Anyway, I feel for ya. Good luck.
