Intercooler grille?

I tried searching this but coldnt find anything.

I have seen our cars without the grille for the intercooler and i like the way it looks and was thinking of taking mine off but i have some questions first.

- how safe is it if i pull the grille off and leave it open?
- Is it hard to Pull it off?
- does it net any gain in power due to better air flow?

It will provide absolutely no power gain. I like way it looks as I have mine off but I also have a nice dent in my intercooler from a rock on the highway.

I would say it has to flow more air with it off .... lowering IAT2 temps. At my house if i take the screen out of the window on a calm nite .....it lets more air into the room for sure. I know it sounds crazy but it works that way. My grill is still in , and i have no way of logging iat2's or else i would test it.

i dont understand the whole not safe thing i took mine out right after i bought it and no damage if u have rocks big enough to get stopped by the openings in the grill coming at ur car id be more worried about the hood bumper and windshield but i barely ever go on the freeway only at low traffic times and dont ride behind dump trucks or semis

Mine took itself out after an outing with a raccoon in the mountains. You won't gain any performance so do it only for appearance. A couple things to think about, one is that it won't keep anything heavy from breaking through and hitting the intercooler but it should keep some large/light stuff out. It also helps support the lower fascia and the lip. It probably won't hurt in the short term, but I'd be curious to see years down the road if that part starts sagging if you remove the grill (might check with some of the LSJ owners who have done a similar modification). I'll be putting one back on my car as soon as I get around to ordering it.

Yeah, easy to take out, just be careful not to bend it too much, as the plastic is pretty soft. Go ahead, ask me how I know....

The lower grille was the first thing i bought for my cobalt SS/SC. I like the looks of it and it protects the A/C condensor.
