The 2.4 spools the turbo about 10% sooner, so 4k would be reduced to 3600 or so. Remember that you still have the same cylinder head, so the 20% more displacement does not mean 20% more power, either.

The 2.1 shows a noticeable spool improvement on the dyno, but it is not significant. Maybe 100-150 RPM lower.

For the spool threshold you are looking for, you would want to run an EFR turbo which uses a smaller (and much lighter) turbine wheel than you have in your Precision turbo.

I am planning on building a 2.1 as I have a perfect 2.4 Gen 2 block. My plan is 2.o steel crank ,K1 rods and 88mm Weisco pistons LNF , ZZP nuetral balance shafts and cams. I will be using a slightly ported head with either Supertech or ZZP springs. I have the block on the stand and am exploring the possibilty of partially filling the block which I have done many times with small block stroker blocks. What do you think ?

We are running the 5857 Billet wheel on another car we just built that was a 2.5 and the spool up was almost instant anytime you went WOT. I didn't suggest the 2.4 being a good idea but I agree that it will def help spool it up faster.

When we first started with this turbo it was spooling around 4500 but after tuning we were able to get it around the 4k mark. the 2.1 block would prolly be a minimal gain in spool time but I honestly wouldn't be thinking about a bigger motor JUST for spool differences. I told him he just should build what he has, you can make PLENTY of power on the 2.0.

Since I allready have the block I might as well use it unless someone wants to trade me a good LNF block

By the way Nick took the Cobalt road racing in the rain last weekend at Beaver Run and never got passed. I might add it was test and tune. Car runs like a raped ape and the ZZP 4.45 Trans was perfect for the track. Never had to downshift into 3rd gear. Thanks to BYT and ZZP Oh and I passed a Viper ACR

Would it be possible to make my car similar to that one that you're talking about?

A/R as in .48/.63/.82 It should be on the exhaust housing. It's all in the turbo, my .63 DBB Delta 65 (65-lbs min turbo) spools better than my old .82 journal 50t. Old journal bearing .48 Delta 44 (44-lb min turbo) saw full boost at 3200rpm.

You have to pick a turbo to suit your wants paired with your engine. Not buy a turbo and try to change your whole engine to make it spool like you want.

If I build the entire engine, using the head/cam combo from zzp, should it help lowering the spooling?

As far as the cylinders head, I will purchase the head/cam combo that you guys make

Dude, just get a turbo with a smaller exhaust a/r size. The bigger the turbo exhaust size the better the exhaust can flow but it also requires an engine with enough exhaust gases required to spin the turbine. You can sell your current turbo to someone with a bigger engine. You won't make as much peak power but it will spool up a lot quicker. Go .48 a/r or something similar to that. Perfect.disguise was trying to tell you that. I don't know a whole lot about cars, but if you'd just read up you'd understand how things work.

If you don't want to lose your peak power that you have with the bigger exhaust a/r then build your engine to have the **** revved out of it and just wind it out all the time. Higher revs = more exhaust gases flowing out of your engine. You can build these engines to rev out to 9krpm+ it just takes lots of money. You're talking pretty well all new forged internals. Pistons, Rods, Custom Valve Springs, Valves, Custom Solid lifters....and you're prob gonna run into fueling issues as well....

I will definitely get a meth kit when I do the engine. As long as I can bring the spool time down to at least 500 rpms, I will be the happiest guy on here.
Thank you guys all for your advices.

Would it be possible to add a supercharger to increase low end power?

almost every twincharged lsj set-up took a poop. i wonder how the lnf would hold up. probably just as tough to tune if not harder

i know you dont want to go this route but, ...nitrous. it sounds like money isn't too much of a problem to you so...i say build your motor...port and polish parts (head, intake mani, etc) and do a small shot of nitrous. i say a 50-75 shot would suffice. pretty sure that would help your spool time a good little chunk.

Hmm,full boost at 4k isnt too bad. Your seeing decent boost a couple hundred rpm before then. You dont want to spray too low in the rpms.

It sounds like you don't like your turbo. While there is nothing wrong with the 5857 in other common applications, if you ran a turbo closer matched to your goals, it would spool sooner.

I do like my 5557 when it kicks in. I would just love to feel it a little sooner

Sorry, was away most of the week Christian, **** is not going well with my mother in law. She is in the ICU now

Add displacement will def get it to spool quicker but its a VERY expensive route to do so! The nitrous would help but Im really not a fan of using nitrous that low in the RPM range, even to spool up a turbo. Just asking for trouble IMHO!

Nothing else is going to make a dramatic difference in the spool time tho. You should've seen the lag before we applied some tricks to it lol. I really didn't think it was bad but Im used to a turbo that spools later then that on the Subaru. So I thought that was nice lol. A 7064 EFR would be nice and prolly pretty easy to adapt to what you have there already. Id buy that 5557 off you to offset some cost, I plan on swapping my 20g on my Subaru for a 5557 Billet BB and one of our custom rotated setups like you saw on that Legacy Wagon that was here

Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. Damn!! How is she doing? I was about to text you to see if next weekend (not the one coming up, the following one) I can bring my car down for the gauges.
Can you give me some info about the turbo you're talking about, such as hp rating, size and everything that would be useful to know? Thanks.
