The Most Ridiculous Brake Story Yet.....
I agree with that, BUT in my case the rears went at 8000 (must be insufficient lube from factory) but then they went AGAIN 4000 miles later. And because of them turning the rotors down TWICE now I have to pay to replace them. That's bull. And the Brembos is what I am really not happy about, I mean I knew the rear brake issues, but for supposedly the end-all-be-all Brembo's to have a frozen piston on each side, that is kinda like the final straw. At least it is being covered under warranty, but I sure hope it doesn't happen again when it's out of warranty. $357 per caliper is not an expense I want to pay!
I'm kinda glad that my car has 86k miles on it, even though it means no warranty and buy what ever you need, I preffer that rather than going to the dealer and put up with their s#!?,with the mechanic, like he is the one paying for the parts and charging you for their work.
sounds like the dealer lent the garage and they are private mech.

Everyone should know, Brembo makes many grades of brakes. Just like GM makes many grades of cars. Just because the caliper says Brembo does not mean it's a race or high quality caliper. You can be sure that the Brembo brakes on the SS and some other OEM applications are not the top of the line Brembos.
You want good brakes, you're going to have to pay. The Stoptechs on the front of my Z06 cost almost $3,000 for calipers, rotors, lines, and 2 sets of pads. That's just the front axle!
I'll be looking into this further but my guess is that some braided lines, good fluid, and some different pads will make the brakes perform adequately for anything besides advanced group HPDE driving.

I can think of a reason why they'd believe your Brembo was seized. The two slide pins on top are really there to prevent the pads from falling out. We used Wilwood brakes on our vehicles at work and they found the pads would bind up against the slide pins when they went through the backing plate. They changed the design so the pad backing plates no longer got pierced by the pins. Instead, the two slide pins merely prevent the pads from falling out. I bet the reason why your Brembos were "seizing" was because the pad sort of binded against the slide pins.
They did mine at 6,000 miles. I am at about 20K now and I am pretty sure my inboard rear pads are worn down pretty bad. The outer pads look new still but I have pull the parking brake up about 15 clicks compared to the normal 2-3 clicks to get it to actually engage. When I bring it for the steering recall I will have them look at the rear brakes. They tried to give me crap last time and I basically said look at the front rotors and pads they do 80% of the braking on the car and they still are like new. They are going to have to replace the pads, rotors and possibly the calipers this time.
Well, the car goes back in today for the replacement of the rear rotors (since they were turned twice) that have a hot spot, and the replacement of the front Brembo calipers. I will have them put on the Hawk Pads I have when they do this. Now I am also getting a "service pressure monitor" message for the right rear, so they can check that out as well.
$398 to get the rear rotors replaced and to retain the Hawk pads that I had put on the rears 4 months ago. The brembo calipers replaced under warranty, and they put my Hawk pads in free of charge. So $398 just for the rear rotors and installation. I think that is outrageous. Plus I had them check my rims, the paint is actually wearing off, NOT curb rash, but the paint just "rubbing off" especially the area between the center caps and the spokes. They told me they would go 50-50 on them. Screw that. I can buy nice aftermarket still cheaper than the inflated GM prices and the rims they would give me would be reconditioned. Oh how I am starting to regret buying this car.
Update
The Service Manager called me today. He went back over the history of my car and said he agreed I should not have had to pay for the rotors since the rotors were turned down twice before under warranty, and now needed replaced. He re-imbursed me the $400. Hooray for a dealer/service dept that is doing the right thing.
