The Pins are STUCK!?!?!? WTF!

So, bought Hawk HPS pads and new rotors for the front and rear. I was putting in the stainless steel brake lines and the drivers side didn't want to go into the thread. I tried to almost two hours before I finally said hey whatever I'll put in a new line and that will be that. Or so I thought........

I went to punch the pins out of the drivers side Brembo and nothing. I tried with three different punches, two hammers and a mallet. Nothing......this is really starting to freak me out. I go to the passenger side and the same thing. OMG!!! I'm so F&$%ed. I take the brakes off and clamp them into a vice and try again. I soak the pins generously in penerating oil. I heat them up and Nothing. At this point, so damn pissed. I hit the pin so hard that it moves out of the first hole and bends in the middle of the caliper. NOW LIVID!!!

So it ends up that both sets of pins have fused to the inside of each caliper and i needed to get a set of brembos for the front........NOT SO HAPPY! I will include pics of the brakes when I get home so you can see the pin bend. It is crazy.

Yep this has been a problem lately. A lot of it is from brakes never being serviced and driving through the elements and the pins corroding. Anti sieze the new pins where they go into the calipers and when you was your car once in awhile try to get in there and clean out the calipers

Thats the plan. Anti-seize. Gotta love it. I always love taking apart the rear to grease those pins too. UGH!

Hmmm... I have to do the same thing, hawk pads and all four rotors, once I get into the states ASAP. Not looking forward to it from all these horror stories. So would it be recommended to order the pins from CED ahead of time? I take it this BS (which seems to have happened to a lot of people) isn't covered under warranty either?

I've never had this happen, but I service my brakes regularly. It has happened to a few people. I would take the biggest set of locking pliers you can get on the pin from the middle, and try to rotate it to break it free. It's possible that this won't help, but it's worth trying before taking more destructive measures, like cutting the pin and pulling it out. It's just the outside expanding section that seems to get seized. That's the part you'll need to concentrate on moving.

So I bought some calipers off ebay and I have one last pin that will absolutely not come out. It won't twist and I don't have access to a torch. Any other ideas to get this sucker out? I have no qualms about doing what it takes to get this thing out since I already have new pin kits.

I would go buy the propane torch. I did them as long I could before I though that the piston area with all that rubber would get too hot. I scrapped it all down and torched. They look fused. I got my new ones today from CED!!!! Paint tonight and install tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice. Luckily, I didn't need it. Gave it one more shot with some lube and hard pounding (that's what she said) and the pin came out. Just finished cleaning the calipers up. Now to prep and paint!

I assume it's just you guys that see snow/salt that have this issue. At least, I hope that's what it is. At the rate I'm going, it'll be 2016 before I need front brakes, so I'm worried the pins will be stuck by then. I guess I'll pull them out now and clean them.

This happened to me yesterday. One of the pins in the drivers side brembo caliper wouldn't budge. I just ended up taking it to the dealer and having them mess with it.

Oddly enough, the pad on the caliper was almost complete gone. The passenger size pads had more than 50% left. It's safe to assume that the drivers side caliper had premature wear going on.

I done my brakes at 20000miles and 3 were stuck and had to cut them out. Don't use anti-seize get permatex pin grease (purple stuff). My car never saw snow and very little rain so I assume it's from frequent car washes and rim cleaner. You need to knock the pins out every oil change and re-grease them. It takes about 10 min so not a big deal.
