Are you in the gas when this noise happens? How much throttle?

Why are you at WOT already with a little over 100 miles?

To the OP, I wonder if this has something to do with the VVT and fuel delivery...I normally can't hear much of anything but my engine at 5000RPM at WOT, but then again I'm not really paying attention.

The manual also doesn't say to avoid WOT during the break-in except from a dead stop. While they recommend not going above 5000rpm, this isn't a steadfast rule with today's engines. If you couldn't go WOT a car would be pretty useless on two lane highways during break-in, unless you're someone who enjoys passing someone at normal throttle in 5th gear.

I'm not worried about it, it kind of sounds like a v8.. the moment they back off from full thorttle... it sounds awesome so :P

If it isn't a rule, they wouldn't put it in the manual. It says it does not require an extensive break in, but you should follow the rules outlined. One of which is to stay out of the high RPMs.

Correct, but my argument still stands that WOT does not mean you need to go to the redline . I think during my "break-in" I hit 6000rpm maybe two or three times and with today's machining techniques I'm not overly concerned that it will cause problems. Beyond that I drove it as the manual recommended, but the second that odometer hit 800km (500 miles) that was it for being nice...it was driven hard for at least a week straight .

GSpeed, if I can manage to find a break in traffic today on the small bit of highway I take on the way home I'll see if I can hear the pops you're describing if I let it rip. I know our exhaust will pop and gurgle a bit similar to how the SRT-4s did when you get off the throttle, but at WOT I'll really have to concentrate on the tone of the exhaust to see if mine does it as well.

Yea, I will most likley try it when I leave work in a few hours...

To see if I can hear it again, maybe I'm confusing myself.. Maybe I let of thorttle a bit.... or shifted into second? Damn..

All I know is this car's exhaust is awesome + the spooling sound + the BPV

Rev limiter?. Poping can eitheer mean rich (unburned fuel combusts in the exhaust system) or lean condition ( like your fuel cut rev limiter)

.....I hope your not trying to NLS into 2nd gear.... that would be LOL.

In 1st gear... at high RPMs.. my 09 TC makes the same sound.. 10,000 miles odometer. No worries. Just sounds like **** burning off.

Is this your first manual trans.? They act quite diff when in gear than autos. especially a tight 1st gear.
