removing stock resonator
removing stock resonator
I was just curious how the car would sound with zzp catless Downpipe and just stock muffler removing the stock resonator cuz the muffler delete with catless is loud and the catless with stock is to quiet has anyone done this before? Cuz i was thinking of trying it will it be to buzzy and or raspy? Opinions on this would be appreciated
Im more worried that if i take out the resonator and leave the stock muffler its going to be to quiet because now i have a cutout right before the stock muffler so when i want it loud i have it but with the dp its way to loud open but closed its prius quiet and i want a little bit of sound
I ran this exact setup for a few months early last spring prior to my straight pipe setup I have now. It actually did sound pretty decent and it was noticably more aggressive than a buddy of mine's 09 ss/tc that had a catless dp with the full stock catback, however, at a certain rpm and load it would get a funny rasp which I really wasn't crazy about so I ditched the setup. It was actually a little raspier (if that's even a word.. lol) than my full 3" turbo back straight pipe setup with a small 12"x4" body resonator in place as a "mild muffler" that I have now. The resonator delete is inexpensive enough to at least give it a shot though.
Yea its came out good just exactly the sound level i was looking for and when i open the cut out now it has straight pipe very happy with it and recommend it for anyone thinking about it my car felt like it loses alot of power with the straight pipe setup now its perfect power wise i just wanna get a tune now

Lol yea well its cuz all my friends said it sounds like **** from outside like" a pissed off civic with a bad cough" i thought it sounded good inside the car perfect level of loud maybe ill just.go straight pipe now with just a magna flow resonator i just feel like the car is going to loose alot of power with just a straight pipe on gms1 even the cutout open made the car feel slugish and unresponsive...how bad are my afr going to be off if i have catless Downpipe with a straight pipe?

Yeah I had basically the same experience with it. The tone was good from inside the car, but outside of the car was a very different story. It had this odd rasp to it that just really didn't sound very good.. lol..
As far as you afr, that won't be effected with with a catless dp and 3" straight pipe. The ecm has a commanded afr that it will adhere to at all times at any given load and throttle position. The only time this can be an issue is if your bank 1 o2 sensor (which is the onboard widewand) is performing incorrectly and sending false readings to the ecm. It's pretty unlikely to happen, but isn't at all outside the realm of possiblity. I personally change mine every 10k miles as a preventative mainenance precaution do to the fact that I'm running a relatively aggressive tune, and combined with a catless dp this can burn out the o2 sensor prematurely.
Your trims on the other hand will most likely be effected a bit by the dp (due to the less restrictive exhaust gas air flow), but not nearly enough to cause any real issues.

I cut mine out but wish I hadn't.. reason bring the resonator is actually where the exhaust goes from 3" to 2.5 so trying to imitate that with a piece if pipe is difficult. I actually believe it decreased flow because the new pipe had to be inserted into the flange side of the pipe to weld it. If that makes sense.. I recommend just buying an aftermarket muffler in place of the stock muffler. Leave the resonator alone IMO
