replacement battery

well my car is currently stored and about a week before i put it away for the winter, the battery was done for it. i was planning on buying a battery here in the next week.

i would like to buy a optima yellow top battery but i dont think its worth 200$. i can get a discount from a local parts store (carquest) and all the battery is,is a carquest brand battery. i dont know much about batteries, but the carquest battery should work just fine,i was more curious what a decent battery would be to buy? i want to be bale to pick it up same day and i dont think any auto stores carry AC delco batteries.

suggestions?f

Interstate is one of the best.

I settled for a fleet farm battery. Seems pretty good.

I actually manage a carquest store and their batteries are made by decka eastpen and honestly not just cause i work there but the batteries are very good and depending on what model battery your getting it comes with a 2 or 3 yr free replacement. I dont have my cobalt nemore but when i did i installed a extreme series battery which is a gel type that you can mount however you want in the car. they have good reserve time as well as good cca and ca. The part number is NG3478. I also use that in my 500whp mustang that i only drive prolly about 3k miles a year and it sits most of the time and i have never had any problems with it. IMO the extreme series carquest battery is worth the money and you will prolly have better luck with that than the yellow top.

Interstate battery is owned and manufactured by Johnson controls in Mexico. So is optima. The optima quality since Johnson controls bought them had gone down hill. I still sell 8000 of them a year though

Deka is a good brand. However the battery you put in your car was not a gel. It would have to be AGM(absorbed glass mat). The gel batteries have very strict charging parameters. It would be destroyed in a very short time with the high voltage of a car alternator. The AGM's have very similar charging characteristics as standard flooded batteries so they can be used in vehicles with no issue.

Drive it around! Just wash it once you put it back to get the salt dust off.

I would hope the new battery is charged. If its older than 3 months, ask them to charge it.

Had to replace my stock AC Delco battery today. Disappointed as it was just 4+ years old.
I live in Canada and got a MotoMaster MOT90 battery from Canadian Tire for $125 (taxes in).
It fit very nicely: the vent was built in and it strapped up nicely.

Canadian Tire will also test your old battery and give you a printed report for free just to be sure it is the battery dying or not.

- 3 year replacement warranty (not pro-rated); pro-rated after 3 years
- Cdn Tire will jump start the battery in the first 3 or 5 years of ownership under their Cdn Tire Auto Club

The week before I had my local GM dealer replace an air bag sensor for $330. The day after the "Service Airbag" light went on again; I was asked if the car didn't start due to a bad battery because that can apparently trigger a "Service Airbag" message. It didn't that day but now I wonder if it did momentarily and I didn't notice. Food for thought...

Yes if your battery is dead you can set the airbag light. My car was like that when I bought it. Hadn't been driven in like 6 months.
