I truly hate this feature. Can it be removed? If so, how?

 

I hated it when I first got it. It's not a big deal now.

 

You pop out the center console and shave the tab where it catches.

After I shave the tab I can just move the shifter into reverse?

 

I had the reverse lock on my first car, a V6 Ford Contour. My next car, the Ford Fuckus didn't have it, and I missed it. I am glad the TC has it again, it's a feature I like, especially when I let the wife drive the TC.

It can also be amusing if you tell a buddy he can take your car for a rip and he has to back out the laneway. (said buddy was new to standards haha) He couldnt figure it out.

 

get a STS that does not have the feature also.

 

Only thing about removing reverse lockout is that you have to hunt for fifth. You wont be able to go all the way right then up on the shifter to get in fifth because you go too far with the tab removed. Not a big deal but kind of a pain in the ass.

 

Good to know. I normally take my time going into 5th anyway. I drove my friends LS and she didn't have it and I was like I have to make mine like that.

 

Ok I have to ask, what is it about the reverse lockout that drives you nutts . I don't even think about it putting it into reverse anymore so I'm more curious than anything else .

 

if anything id love it....... say ur used to having a 6 speed or something and ur in 5th on the freeway and decide to shift again............ OOOOOPS

 

I like reverse lock out. But that's just my opinion.

I'm a fan of it as well... Only time it ever annoyed me was on my test drive, wherein my dad and I looked like fools trying to get the car in reverse for 2 minutes

 

Oh my gosh. You're not kidding me. I went to check the mail the day after the hubby bought me the car and couldn't get into reverse! I started panicing and then put the car in N and engaged the ebrake. I walked all the way home (1/4 mile) and told Terry, "The car's stuck at the mailbox. Go fix it or take it back to the dealer." He was out there about 35 minutes and then roared down the driveway. He said, "That **** is fucked up."

 

when I got home the first day with it I tried to back up and went.....oooooooooo ****!. But yea I like it, its kinda like insurance for you if you are stupid one day and try to put it in R.

 

I love the feature. Makes me feel safer about jumping from 6-speed to 5-speed

 

The only reason it took us so little time was my recalling a friend who has a Focus mentioning he had something similar.

 

^^lucky... we hillbilly rednecks never heard of such a feature. All the camaros we had weren't like that.

 

I changed the shifter in mine and reverse lockout is causing me to have to install the shifter higher than stock. Its taller.

Why would you want to take it out? The only time you have to use it is when putting it in reverse. Are people really getting that lazy?

 

It's frustrating for about a week after it's broken in, it's actually a smooth process.

 

12k miles and its still at fight. lol
