Should I Check My Valvetrain?
I have read about lash adjusters breaking and leaving a rocker arm laying around. I am wondering if I should check mine because I have missed a gear a few times, and I think I over reved it will down shifting to help me quickly slow down (saw tach at 6500). The car runs and sounds fine, which is why I'm not sure if I should. I also think because its my first new car. But if I did break something I would like to fix it. I have been tossing around the idea than thought its running fine why bother. But tonight I missed 2nd (wasn't flooring it, probably 1/2-3/4 throttle) so I'm considering it again. Should I take off the valve cover?
I saw the tach at 6500, so I am thinking it might have been at 7000. I hate it when I miss a gear. My leg is sometimes quicker than my arm. I felt awful every time I did.
I read on here that someone went to replace the valvecover and found a rocker arm laying around. He/she said it was running fine to.

If you don't have a tune that raised your rev limit to 7k, then you can't have hit 7k - there's a rev limiter.
And 6k-6.5k won't bust your lash adjusters or rocker arms if you do it accidentally. If you keep bouncing off your rev limiter for kicks, or because you can't shift for crap, then over time you'll do them in.

If u had broken lash adjusters, it should sound much like a Subaru.. kind of a retarded timing engine sound. It's easy to tell the difference there :P A Cobalt sounds like a Cobalt, and a Subie boxer sounds like a Subie boxer.. if a balt sounds like a Subie boxer.. then u've got problems.
Unless you have an mpx exhaust and are catless. Decided to do a 2nd gear front tire roll up the road to a friends house. He said it sounded like a cessna or a subie, LOL. Just checked the valvetrain recently so I kno thats not an issue.
