So I will be testing one tomorrow

I have some cash saved for my down payment and what not and I am ready to pull the trigger.

I have a test drive scheduled for tomorrow around 12..The only thing I have concerns with is the FWD...everything about this car I am very impressed with. I have been reading about this car and following some threads on here for about 7 months and I think I am ready to go.

I just hope the fwd doesn't turn me off, I drove my moms g6 gt a lot, I never had any major problems with the fwd except for the under steer...But then again we are talking two different cars.

Anything to look out for that I don't know yet?

I pretty much know everything I want, what options, color etc etc..I just need to get rid of the fwd block in my head..I know I will want to add power down the road when I have the money, but will the fwd be alright? Traction?

Figure out what you want to pay before going in and stick to it. Its a buyers market so don't take no for an answer

ya that's the first thing I read on this car about 7 months ago lol...thanks though

I know its fast, but with some extra power I wonder how traction comes into play...I know the trifecta guys talk about spinning second and what not....

After reading numerous threads on here and reading some other things off the internet, I know I can ask for 18ish out the door and they will let it slip after some hardball..I hope.

I wanna keep my payments around 300-350, which might not happen and if so I will be disappointed.

Im not trying to scare you away from the cobalt, but give these cars a try too:

WRX
CSRT
GTI

If you can't get the payments you want, go to the next dealer. Someone wants your money and business. You just have to play the game long enough. And if you get decent tires your traction problems will not be an issue

^^^Agreed. I only tested a TC and a 350. I wanted the TC ever since sema 2007, and even though I love this little btch, I still wonder...should I have bought a CSRT, or another SRT? Maybe I couldve found a gently, lol, used sti, or possibly just went for bigger payments on an evo. Figure out what works for you, then pull the trigger.

that's the thing...I love the awd turbos, but insurance is wayyy more on them compared to the ss...the caliber just looks to crossoverish to me-maybe if they didn't come out with the magnum. The gti is out of the book, long story. The Ralliart again with the insurance...Mostly my problems with the awd cars is, price for parts-(subies are less), power loss, and the fact that it just costs more compared to other types of cars just to gain the same power.

Plus what 250 wheel horse power turbo coupe can you buy for less then 20k? none.

oh yea definitely...After hearing some of the stories of some of the dealerships back in Jersey-just moved to FL a month ago, and some of the ones from down here...I know for a fact they would absolutely hate to see me leave the floor...

if u can deal with 4-doors this is possible. U should check it all out before u buy. Call multiple insurance companies. This is what I do when I buy cars.

and MAKE SURE U haggle the **** out of dealers. I got 2k off mine when there werent ANY incentives or pricing breaks.

Bill as of right now, its 10 minutes away from me....Although I know traveling for a better dealership is worth it's weight in gold.

Can I depend on them for service? The salesman sounded very desperate on the phone and when I spoke to him about a month ago...So I don't think getting my price would be too hard...

why do you think you can get it for $18k on the road?? The vehicle lists for $25k, are you doing a cash for clunker deal?

The vehicle at Bill is Red with the LSD, MSRP is $24815 you should ask for a price of $23000 minus the rebates of $2000. That would put you at a price of $21000 plus taxes and tags. I sell cars for a chevy dealer here in MD and that would put them at a $200 profit!!

well considering I counted more then 15-20 people getting it out the door for about 18.5 I think my chances are good. I did say 18ish, not 18 flat....List price now a days doesn't hold the same strength as it did 2 years ago.

and yea I will be doing the Cash for Clunkers deal, I qualify for the full 4500, 01 Durango 4.7. I just make it for the 4500 mark.

people say they got it for $18k on the road, what they don't say is if they had a trade in or put money down. Like I said, I sell Chevy's and have sold 6 or 7 09 cobalt ss's and have never been able to discount it that much. You would be at $16500 with the clunker deal.
18K on the road is prob. where you would be !!

yea at most I'd test drive the red....I don't feel like driving a red car or at least I don't think. They had the red one on the lot the last time I came in

well the dark blue is impossible to find, and it seems to have a purple tinge to it....I want black since the silver Chevy sells is a little to light for my taste. All I would have to do is have them drive one to my dealership, I've had two dealerships offer to do it for me already in Jersey.

If you are talking about imperial blue, it does not have a purple tint, it is almost black, it is the older SS/SC blue color that had a purple tint

Glad im not the only one who thinks this. i cant get traction for nothin till 3rd gear. lol! But yeah the SS/TC is a great car! i was looking at getting a used 350Z and twinturboing it instead of the Cobalt, and was also looking at Eclipse GSX's, Subaru STI's, and a few Supras. but looking at the cost of aftermarket for those the Cobalts aftermarkets price range was pretty decent, so i decided to stick with the Balt. Its a fun car man!

Has there been a SS/TC owner who regrets their decision to get a SS/TC??!??!

dude, its such a fun car to drive on a daily basis.

You will be so happy you got one, trust me.

The test drive tomorrow will prolly seal the deal for you ( i would bet on it).

I don't know your level of knowledge, I try not to assume anything. But just know that the car is a lot different once you break it in and get the tranny smooth.

The torque steer at WOT in 2nd gear can be tricky at times, although my bolt on 97 GTP had 10 times worse torque steer.

I love FWD, although I know many don't like it.

This car screams through corners.... for sure an auto-X built machine. Although, with a simple tune ( thats it, no bolt ons) you can impress folks at a drag strip ( get new tires if your going to a drag strip)

Ummmm...... if you are experienced with manual trans. Start working on the No-Lift Shift 1-2 to prevent wicked bog down going into 2nd.

Shifter can be a bitch due to cables.

Engagement point on clutch is soooo close to the floor.... be ready as soon as you start letting it out.

Stock Conti tires have horrible tread ware. They go pretty quick.

You lucky your in Florida, no snow. I drove my 09 through this past Michigan Winter ( brutal one) with the stock Conti ( Summer only rated) tires.... it was ******* treacherous, so no worries about getting you snow tires!

And yes, as others have stressed, whatever you do, DO NOT GET ONE WITHOUT A LIMITED-SLIP DIFFY.*******

The RPD option is awesome, and just flat out cool. People always comment on it.

Your in Florida, don't get impulsive, think about a Sun Roof option, I am in Mich. and I love mine.

Reverse is a bitch.

that is everything I know and can pass along.

2010 models of vehicles are out/coming out.... 08/09 TCs are last year bro.... I paid approx 23,000$ for my 09 back in August of 2008.... no way should anyone should pay over 20,000 for a SS/TC now.

A lot of them out there have been lot rotting too.

Its hard times... this economy makes a lot of industries a buyer's market.

****, I just got my first house thanks to our crappy economy. Get a 18,000 SS/TC out of it for yourself.

Lowball the **** out of them bro. There has to be a desperate dealer(ship) somewhere.

My style- Get them talking and get some interest built up.... then clam up.... wait a few days, that dealer will be calling YOU!
