Ok...I test drove a red ss/tc had a high rise wing, and after driving a car with one on it..i really dislike it now, more then I did just by looking at one.

I had a little trouble distinguishing 3rd and 5th.....but with a little more care it makes it easier. I ran it through 2-4th only giving it a little more then half throttle. The last time I drove stick was about half a year ago on an 86 chevy pickup...I didn't want to beat on it to much since my shifting smoothness was not there, after I told the salesman that and not having the confidence to really give it some gas, the salesman had me pull over so he could show me. I did run it a little hard, but most likely nowhere near full throttle.

Loved it when I barely ran it hard, and I really loved it after he gave it a good shot. I was able to chirp 2nd gear once-accident lol. I heard the recirc go off on a few of the harder shifts.

I want to give the csrt a test and that's really all. Being a current Dodge owner is a plus, and they are offering almost like 8k on rebates and special deals. I just don't think the car can compare as much, and i haven't done ANY research on that car....

My only problem is the fact I haven't established credit yet, I'm still young as ****. 20.
So I would most likely need my dad to co sign with me. If I found a dealer willing/able to give me credit on my own, I'd still likely get raped by the interest rates. Maybe I can find a dealer to give me credit on my own..that would make things much easier.

edit- I also heard getting mopar parts for the new csrt's can be difficult, and besides I never liked the nsrt4's and the csrt4's look too wagony and a rip off of the magnum.

dealer installed options, that's the reason why it was stickered at 27k. 2000 rebate 1000 old age money, 1500 for having a 2000 or newer nissan or infinity. about $1500 worth of total profit. most sticker at $25000 so with these rebates and discounts you would be at $19k...................but the vehicle has to qualify for the old age money and you have to have a nissan or infinity. I sell cars and no matter what you think, a dealer isn't desperate to lose money!!!

Shop around for a rate, you can easily find one in the 5's.
I guess when you say shop around for a rate, do you mean go to different dealers?

The price differences sound awesome when you go for like a 3k-5k miles 08-09..but I'd never know for sure how it was driven/was it beat on...you know? Idk maybe I'm just paranoid

I definitely made up my mind about the cobalt. The only other car I can afford brand new would be a civic si. Not Happening. Every car that "competes" with it would have to be purchased used....The only car I would think of getting would be an evo or sti, and even then, in that used market 90% of those cars came from someone who beat on it....and I forgot to mention I'd be paying almost the same amount...

dude, you know cars lose about 10 % of their value as soon as you drive it off the lot.

Its wayyyy soon, but if you could find a lightly used 08 or possibly 09 SS/TC, you would get it for cheap, don't know how many are being sold as of yet, if any really.

If it helps - just imagine stepping into the garage to see this beauty everyday... I know it never fails to put a smile on my face...

Dollar for dollar I am of the opinion that you really can't find a better value that the ss/tc. For power modifications, I know for certain that we beat subaru - you can easy spend twice as much to get the type of power that a cobalt can get. Besides power, you also need to think of things like suspension... Once again I have a feeling we have most other brands in our category beat. My husband drives a subie (he went from a wrx to a sti) and the above picture is my car and he is constantly remarking about how well built my car is compared to his... for example - just the rolling resistance my car has (none) to his (significant) makes a lot of difference in overall performance...

yeah for a daily driver, the SS/TC can't really be beat. Fun factor is through the roof.

Now if you plan to do Auto-X or something.... yeah... a few better choices.

I didn't read the whole thread, but incase no one mentioned it:

The majority (if not all) of people who are driving off with a SS/TC for 18k out the door may be talking about the wind damaged cobalts that were for sale a few months back. These cars were somehow damaged in transport/storage (nothing major, just minor cosmetic damage), and sold for ~$18,000.

Just because someone says they got a car for $18,000 doesn't mean it's true (or what you think...a lot of people don't include sales tax in their 'price paid' figure for some reason). They didn't become any more inexpensive to build, that's for sure...and I would imagine a dealer pays more than 18k to get an SS/TC. I'd say 20k out the door is a fantastic deal. I'm a GM employee and paid 22.xxk PLUS tax, it was right back at around 24k out the door.

shop around on the rate means doing some research for a good rate yourself. The dealer can usually find a good rate, but it might not be the absolute best one. You can set up your own financing if you find a better deal. I'm not sure how it works, but I'm sure the bank can tell you exactly how it's done. Credit unions often have the best rate. I qualify for the Arizona state employees credit union just because I went to ASU. They have the best rate I've seen. You might be able to find something similar.

Buy new!!! With you qualifying for the clunker deal you can't beat the price and wouldn't be able to buy a used 09 for that price. We have a 09 with 11k miles on it for $18997.

I'm guessing you have a Sport? Kinda hard to compare a 2.4 to a C-srt-4 or either FI'ed SS . I know it hard to gauge someone's "Tone " or attitude on the net but........I'm not being arrogant and i don't want to come across as jerk ...... Do you think you would still hate your Cobalt if it was a turbo or supercharged one? Maybe you would ....Csrt-4's are sweet, there is one in the buffalo area that's killer.

Smile I dunno if anyone has answered this part yet.

I just hope the fwd doesn't turn me off, I drove my moms g6 gt a lot, I never had any major problems with the fwd except for the under steer...But then again we are talking two different cars.

Anything to look out for that I don't know yet?

I pretty much know everything I want, what options, color etc etc..I just need to get rid of the fwd block in my head..I know I will want to add power down the road when I have the money, but will the fwd be alright? Traction?
You mentioned FWD and torque steer - I was coming off ( and still have ! ) my '99 Camaro SS RWD.

About the only time I notice torque steer is during really hard acceleration on a bumpy, 2 lane asphalt road. On concrete, it's like it is not there.

This car handles probably better (!) than my SS and is a ball to drive. The clutch takes a while to get used to, and the NLS is weird at first (keep your foot on the gas ! while shifting ), but you quickly get used to it.

I have a sedan and averaged across an entire 2400 mile road trip 29.6, so the window sticker is pretty darn accurate as far as the mileage.

Straight line power is less than the Camaro ( 2.0 liter vs 5.7 liter) , but when that Stage kit finally makes it way out it ough to get closer.

The Camaro is around 3500 lbs and was rated at 320HP - the 'Balt is around 2900 lbs and would be rated at 290HP, 320 TQ - I forget the torque rating on the Camaro off hand.

Things to look for ?

See if the passenger side has the SS letters on the trim, see if the new style clip is in place on the turbo inlet pipe , and whether or not it has the limited slip option - G85, I think.

Sounds like the pricing issue has been covered.

Good Luck !

Britt

I would hate any cobalt besides the SS/TC. Weak sauce and horrible cars IMO.

yea the old ss/sc'd in my opinion were disgusting in many more ways then one. I also think they don't deserve the SS badge. The new ss/tc's however are a whole nother ball game.

thanks! I forgot to think of the charge pipe clips..I knew about the lsd, for the price you can't beat it. Its funny you told me to look for the SS badge on the right dash. During my test drive I saw it and remembered the few cars on here without it....It was there, but that wasn't the car I'd be purchasing anyways.

So after looking at all my Durango paper work. I discovered/remembered the truck is registered in my moms name. We did this when I bought it, because it was kind of a, you get in trouble I take the keys thing.....I've been driving the car for the last 4 years, and I've been insured on my moms policy listed as the driver. I am however NOT the registered owner, although I paid for it with my own money.

I think I might be screwed for the cash for clunkers deal, today was ruined by me finding this out. It took 30 seconds for 2500 bucks to go flying out of the window, because all the truck is really worth is about 2000. I used to qualify for the full 4500.

I used my step son's car as a trade in - the dealer was OK w/ that , and I took delivery of the car on a Wednesday w/ them knowing full well the trade would not be in 'til that Saturday as that was when he would be in from school, and he had to sign the title.

It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings !

An SS/Supercharged not deserving an SS badge?? I hope you have your model's mixed up. The SS/SC isn't that far behind a turbo car stock for stock. The SS/SC is a great car ....... It earned that SS badge ....by far .

LOL yea right...I don't deserve that much flaming....cmon!

I just think chevy could have done better with it...I mean at the same time they released a 4cyl sport coupe and named it a super sport, barely over 200 horses....Honda released their SI with the k20 in it...200 horses..NA.....Honda makes them look soooooo bad for those years..

I don't see any great engineering in that do you?....

I just think the new turbalt defines what a 2 door coupe 4 cylinder sports car should be....plenty of power, plenty of pull, and great handling with some cool features to it....granted it isn't the most beautiful car interior wise....I still think it sets the standard.

I guess you can say they were just getting their feet on the ground when they released the ss/sc.....and now they are pretty much out the gate running with the ss/tc

It looks like your new to the supercharged Cobalt . Most SS/SC dyno between 205 and 220 WHEEL HP stock, Very few have dynoed below 200...I've seen one that was 198 whp and thats about the lowest i can remember. .

GM underrated the LSJ by about 30 BHP. A stock LSJ has to be between 225-230 BHP from the factory. The LSJ was not dynoed for SAE Certification like the LNF was , so when they claim 260 for the turbalt .....it's correct . Truth be told there is no more than 30-35 hp between the two.

The SS SUPERCHARGED deserves it's badge , and there are plenty out there that are capable of showing LNF's that one on the trunk .

i couldnt care less if my cobalt was a sstc i think i still wouldnt like it that... much my friend has a 08 ss ive driven it i mean its fast as hell but it just would still be the love hate relationship i have with mine. i mean i loved cobalts when i bought mine and i wouldnt never talk **** bout them to other ppl or try to talk someone out of buying one. i just have some regrets of buying mine. i bought to quick without looking at other cars.
