Sonar projector headlights?

Are these supposed to be top of the line headlights for the Cobalt? I saw a 08-09 SS/TC in the parking lot at work and it had the blacked out version. I really liked how sleek the turn signal/markers looked - it was almost OEM. The CCFL halo's and LEDs have me worried about longevity.

Is it worth it to upgrade the headlight housings? How well do the stock 9007s/headlight housings work for illuminating the road? I do a LOT of fast driving on dark unlit highways at night, so I need the best lighting possible.

Does everyone install headlight relay/wiring upgrades?

These are the ones I saw:

These are also available:

I heard about some problems with the LED's and CCFL halo's failing prematurely, as well as moisture seeping through the lens and having difficulty evaporating.

I just installed mine today (The Black ones shown above) with HID low beams.

Got them from 3Bspec (operatic is his screen name) - A vendor on this site.

They installed the 6000K HID's into the new housings, so the kit was damn-near plug and play. Just had to hook up the LED's and Halo's to the parking lights and mount the HID ballasts.

Still waiting for dark to see if they are aimed well, but otherwise they're in.

I'll most likely swap out the high-beam for a Hyper-White bulb, but that's no big deal.

I just put 5 new pics in my gallery showing the new lights.

I have the 3rd gens made by Sonar. So far after a few months on the shipped halogen bulbs i have no peeling, cracking or anyother problems with the lens or housings. I gota take out that damn reflector in the projector tho that glare spots kinda annoying lol

The stock lights IMO suck moose *****. I don't know if it's the 9007 bulb or the design of the the stock reflectors.

The fog lights aren't really that bad. They appear to have a decent cut off line.

I had those lights in my car a while back.......They cracked, melted, and the prejector adjustment thingy broke (inside) on both lights.... I think they could be way way better quality, Not I am a fan of just the black housing stockers, which I am going to do soon

Yea I had the black version on my GT...the lenses lasted 3 months in the AZ summer heat and then cracked and splintered all over...it looked like **** so I had to put the stockers back in. Too bad they aren't better quality, I like the look. Wonder if that company sells new lenses.

I agree w/ the stocks being horrible. I did the 3rd Gens from 3B spec as well, didnt add the halo's (didnt wire up because I hate halos unless your car came with them). The quality is questionable, but I like the look. Just a pain in the rear to get aimed correctly, I'm still working on that lol..

But 6k HID's look nice. I ordered 50W ballast hoping to lower the blue into the 4500 range (figured the 5k's would look more yellow with this) but the 50w ballast didnt ship, have to work w/ 3b on getting those changed.

Heh, every time I get in the car I think about how good the stocks are... But I suppose thats a relic from owning/driving over 10 80's and 90s cars... These headlights are awesome compared to most of the cars Ive owned Spoiled, I tell ya! Now get off my lawn!

I don't find the stock headlights too bad. Lighting isn't horrible, it's a good amount, especially with the foglights on too. I did wish the high-beams were brighter, I was pretty disappointed the first time I threw them on... I asked myself, "That's it?" But it doesn't bother me enough to dislike this car at all.

Personally, I think the lowbeams on the Cobalt are weaksauce. The fogs and highbeams are another story...
