srt 4
Heres an example of how big of a difference they make with numbers.
A mopar stage 1 only with minor bolt ons makes around 315 whp and 330 wtq. A s2 NSRT4 cant keep up with a s1 CSRT4.
A FIC MS1 csrt4 can make around 350-360 whp and 360-370 wtq. Look here at the difference between the two csrts:
and then if you add in a cheap compressor wheel upgrade they push over 400 especially on race gas. RT made 431 whp / 533 wtq on race gas. And then if you port the head and do a few other things you can make over 500 on pump, stock engine, stock tranny, stock compressor wheel housing. They really do have tons of potential.

Y u no see my build thread?
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/loun...thread-278657/
it needs to be modified but I cannot change it for some reason. Im thinking about scrapping it and making a new one with more pics and less documentation. The vids are good though.
Their s3 upgrade is a 50 trim, which is actually kind of small when you compare it to other turbos out there. I think this is why srt put a 57mm sized turbo on the csrt to make over 280.
nsrt4 is a neon srt4. Theyre not very quick out of the box and need a turbo upgrade to be fast.
csrt4 is a caliber srt4. Theyre not very quick either out of the box BUT they have a large turbo and strong internals to boot.
A mopar stage 1 CSRT4 >= a fully bolted mopar stage 2 with toys NSRT4.
I raced my buddys skittle with the aforementioned mods with only a filter, stage 1 pcm, exhaust and we were dead even until we got up top and I pulled slightly.

Depends on how well the SRT4 is taken care of.... I'm stock everything besides exhaust, suspension and wheels. My buddies SS/TC when we do 40 rolls he doesn't pull me till 4th and it's not a freight train either he's GM1 tuned. Stock turbo, 93oct, with tune you're looking at 270whp and 340tq on average. Go E85 and you can see 320-340whp 400tq+...... Cobalt is a better platform.. It all depends on the driver and how well the car is managed.
FYI, NSRT-4 ms1 is useless.
The one good thing is that you can crank up your boost safely.. Unlike a GMS1 where the boost is increased with the new map flash. Go stage 2, stage 3, or big turbo for NSRT-4.
i tested against a caliber str4 with some mods
i was stock with a base tft tune +-150 kpa
cobalt ss 09 trifecta - caliber srt4 modded - YouTube
but his friend had a k serie. according to me, it was more fun to run against k serie and it legendary sound than a srt4.

there is a lil bit of diff between the k series motors. the k20a3 is the crappy one 160 hp (have it in my si) then theres a whole butt load of other k20's out there all the way up to the k20a in the type r that makes 220hp then there are the k24's and they make a lil more torque. that civic sounds way to raspy to have a k series in it but may just be the camera. no matter what exhaust i have had on my civic si i never got that raspy sound, and thank god. also i have ran an srt4 neon that a buddy owns and it has some serious cash put into the motor and such. we were pretty close but i pulled on him pretty good. even let him pick speed to launch from and whatever. he would get a lil jump on my but then id blow by him.

i find that hard to believe but anything is possible i guess. i raced a stage 2 NSRT4 when i was stock. he said he had a small boost leak but he didn't pull on me at all from a 3rd gear roll.

Ya I'm throwing the BS flag, a completely stock SS/TC should be pulling on you especially at a 40 roll (in 2nd gear). The only way I could see your friend with the SS/TC not pulling on you is if he was taking a 2-3 second count between shifts. When I was stock I raced a few NSRT4's (all of which had at least exhaust modifications) and I pulled on them all by at least 1-2 cars from 40 rolls.
stock for stock it might be a decent race with a good driver. but GMS1 vs stock NSRT4 and barely pulling. seriously doubt that.
I'm just going based on what I've experienced with them... He couldn't break into the 13's at the track either a HP tuned sedan was only beating me by .1 of a sec maybe they need driver mods he was trapping 105-106mph I was trapping 101mph running consistent 13.9s they were NLS all gears but 1-2 (giving them trouble). His mods were stock everything besides tune I'm stock everything besides exhaust. Here is a time slip against the HP tuned, hard pipe, exhaust, sedan SS. The cobalt is a better car like stated above but I'm bias and don't care to bash either of them. Fastest stock turbo neon is 11.8s isn't the cobalts right around there? Yes Nsrt small turbo no DI either, but the Csrt great motor, turbo, and tranny just in the wrong car....
CSRT4 is a good platform i agree.
cobalt driver needed a driver mod for sure.
i hit 14.1 at 104 with GMS1 and im launching softly and getting a 2.5 60ft.
hptuned with boltons should be mid-low 13s
i've seen GMS1 cars hit mid 13's
