Stock Brakes vs Hawk
Its time to put some brakes on the car again and I dont really know if i want to stay stock or try some Hawk pads. I work at a Gm garage so all my stuff is dirt cheap but i cant get hawk pads cheap.
Stay stock or go with Hawk

uhhh that makes about as much sense as **** on a bull...wtf are track brakes and why would i want to stop less on the street than i would on a track?
my mind is baffled by that one, anyways......
i have hawk pads hp+ and they are AWESOME, after over a year i still have tons of pad left. get them!

Hawk Performance’s HP Plus brake pad compound is ideal for Autocross and Track Day drivers looking for a high performance race compound that can take the heat of the track and get you home safely without having to change the pads.
The High Performance Street compound offers a higher coefficient of friction over stock brake pads and can provide you 20-40% more stopping power and higher resistance to brake fade than most standard replacement pads. Less fade means you will have a highly durable brake pad with less brake dust.

oh well can't win them all
but its no way daily driving he can get the hp+s hot enough to stop that was the whole point of my original comment i was going to explain that but decided to educate instead

The stock pads are excellent, but they dust heavily. They are Ferodo HP1000, which is the same compound used in Audi R8, Ferrari 575, Cadillac CTS-V, and probably more.
They're one of the best track friendly stock compounds available. The downside is the dust. People bitch about them not having enough bite, well, press on the god damn pedal harder. Initial bite does not translate to shorter stopping distances.
If you want cars that have annoying initial bite, to get a Toyota. Or switch to some annoyingly grabby pad.

put my HPS's on some drilled and slotted rotors and i hardly ever see any dust on my rims. the old pads the wheel would be black by the end of the week.
STOCK!! The stock pads and rotors are great.
I've got the R1 Concepts drilled and slotted with the Hawk HPS and they do just fine in daily driving ..
The peddle is more stiff and the pads aren't as "squishy" as the stocks ..
I would say to anyone looking at brakes if your front stock pads are good stick with them and just change the rotors all the way around and the rear pads , make sure the slide pins are lubed with the right grease.
Hawks are more predictable under different conditions and don't really have a variation. They stay consistent.
I've had my HPS pads for 15k with R1 Drilled/slotted rotors .
Pros-
Don't heat up like the stocks under high speeds and continue to deliver stopping power without gumming up, Lower overall brake noise and squeal . Lowers dusting of rims by about 75% .
Cons - Every day driving they don't have the stock feel. Probably won't stop as fast as the stocks under light every day driving conditions on a dry day .. ( stocks suck when heat soaked )
I guess I would rather have a pad that works no matter whats thrown at it VS a pad that only works well in certain conditions . The stock front pad is still very good but not track worthy for long/. They are more "grabby" under normal dry driving.
Yet the HAWK stuff is more consistent under every variable.

have u ever really heated the rotors up. i heard that these rotors can go to **** real fast on a track and that there mainly for show. i have the same r1 set up and there good for street and in the different conditions u were previously mentioning but. for extreme braking the blank rotors with the stock pads were awesome. probably would have been better with the hps as well.
you mean you want to stress the rotor and crack the rotor where its drilled? ugh stay away from those things. and the stock pads are better than the hawk ones. But do as you guys wish!

Performance:
Stock Ferodo HP1000 > Hawk HP+ > Hawk HPS > Hawk Ceramic
Noise/dust:
Hawk Ceramic > Hawk HPS/Stock > Hawk HP+
Me? I run stock fronts and HPS rears for the street. Cobalt Friction XR1 fronts and HP+ rears for track.
Stock fronts are the best. Problem is the f$$kn dust! I don't track my car, so I'm putting these ceramics on the fronts very soon. They are not as fade resistent (heat failure) as the stock pads..BUT..for the street and *canyon carving*..they will be just fine. I have ceramics (Wagner thermoquiet) on the rear now and they're bitchin'. NO dust..no noise and stop the car nicely.
Here are the fronts..Power Stop Evolution. They offer rears as well.

I will report impressions etc as soon as I get on in month or two.

Sorry, but there is a ton of misinformation in your post. I love Hawk products, but you have to understand what you're getting compared to the stock Ferodo HP1000.

This thread makes me LOL, post 3 most of all. Go ahead and try a full racing brake pad, I'll giggle when you can't stop at the first red light.
I'll giggle harder when they eat you rotors up in nothing flat.

1. i was about to get off the wrong exit when i realized i decided to cut back over onto the 2 lane highway but there was a car. there was the v right in front of me, i was going about 80 i nailed the brakes i dont even think abs kicked in but i made it.
2. i was doing about 90 in the right lane and my short left turning lane was coming up. i was on the other side of a tractor trailer. sped up to about 120 got in front of the truck and over, didnt see the two cars at the red light. got on the brakes but i didnt want to slide and came literally 6 inches front rear ending this mini van hard
those are just two instances where i think hps saved my life. i took the stockers off and they were pretty much brand new. still have them. even when my hawks run out i wouldnt even put the stocks back on and im a pretty thrifty guy. i dont usually like to talk up companies but you definatly get what you pay for the hawk hps's are great
so are twm short shifters btw
