Summer Tires, What Brand & What Size (Stock SS/TC Wheel)?

I know there are quite a few threads out there about tires, I've read most of them. This isn't a question of what will fit, more so a question of how you like the tires you have?

I'm looking to get summer tires here in the next month as my Conti DWS's are pretty much gone after 38k. Ideally I would like something like the stock tires that have lip protection as I'm having the stock wheels refinished due to curb rash.

Here are the tires I've looked at so far, and if you have experience with any of them please chime in.

Goodyear Eagle GT (All Season, I know)(Lip Protection)
Continental DW's
Nitto - NT05's + NT555's
BF Goodrich Traction T/A (Lip Protection)
Kuhmo Ecsta XS

And lastly and rec on size? Don't need the best handling as the DWS's weren't very impressive compared to the stock Conti Sport 2's. More so looking for most contact which can be debated between 235/40 and 245/35 due to the tires fitment on the wheel.

Any Pics or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I run 225/40 Continental DWS in the winter. They are a great tire. I've heard very good things about traction in the summer also.

I am getting Sumitomo HTR Z III's installed next week. I'll chime back in here with my findings!

I'm currently running continetal extreme contact dw tires on my ss/tc wheels for the summer. Great tire good dry and wet traction. I'm going to be getting another set in a few weeks. I had 225/40/18 on the car when it was stock, but I'm going to be putting all my mods on this spring so I'm planning on grabbing 235/40/18 this time around for added traction

Out of all of those tires the best 2 (Kumho XS & NT05) are greasy tires. Get some Dunlap Star Spec Z2's in a 225 or 235. They will be good in the rain and in dry conditions.

The Eagle GT's are out for me since they tend to have the edges chop up pretty quick and I used to work at a Goodyear store. lol
I'm leaning for myself on either Toyo Proxes4 or BFG KDW2's.

I have nt-05's in 235/40/18, about as good as it gets for a decent mileage sticky tire. After a nice rolling second gear burnout they hook pretty good in third

Thank you all for your input. I think I've decided size, I'm going to go 235/40/18's I haven't decided which tire. Highly considering Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Anyone here running those? I know they're expensive but them seem to be the best mix of performance and tread life.

I do like the NT05's and have heard great things about them, never once heard a complaint across multiple forums. Although at 200 treadwear they'd probably go quick. I plan to purchase summer tires and in fall purchase new wheels and winter tires. I drive about 1,200 miles/mo. Any idea on mileage on the NT05's? Michelin's PSS are warranty'd until 30K which should get me at least 2 summers of heavy right foot driving.

I have the kumho XS 245 35 18

These are great tires and much less money than Dunlop direzza or other similar tires
When I did my research found an article comparing all the top tires and kumho did well, prob would have been best pick but wet traction they didn't do as well, but for dry they were tops of the choices

I'm a parts manager at a dealership and I can get these for about 185 shipped to me compared to 250 to 300 for some of the choices

^ I considered 245s, and partially still am, however on a 7.5 in wide wheel, a 235 will not have to stretch as far as a 245 would and may actually give me more contact. I'm all for wide, but the whole point of a wide tire is to gain traction and have the most contact with the ground.

Your not going to get any kind of mileage warranty with high performance tires. This subject is just like people looking for a new car that is fast, cheap, and good on gas mileage. Pick 2 things that you look for in a tire and make your pick from there. You have a wide range of different style tires and an prices. What is your budget? Do you autox/road race? If you give us some more info we can help select the best tire for you.

That makes sense. I didn't put a ton in the original post cause I didn't want to bore everyone to death. Basically I'm looking for a good hooking, somewhat long lasting summer tire. I weighed out the Michelin PSS's but today the Continental DW's went down to $158/tire so I'm really considering those. But basically something that will hook and not lean much in turns and at least 20k miles of life.

I don't autox, just like good backroads, and the occasional trip to the drag strip. Other than that, just stick to street.
