Torque Steer

Hey all,

I am just curious if anybody else suffers from major torque steer? I get it in almost every gear and its bad. Like if I go to pass somebody, I can't do it smoothly, I am all over the place and I don't think I can take off using launch control in a straight line. I dunno whats going on. Is it the same for all of you or do I just need to learn how to drive?

I did a highspeed sprint to 200 km/h on a friends property and on the narrow lane, I was all over again and i was holding on with 2 hand. I just see vid's of people taking off like nothing or driving with one hand while recording with the other and I see no torque steer so I thought I would ask.

Thanks

Sounds like something is off. Mine doesn't do that.

Either something is broken, or you're doing this on bad roads.

I get it on any road anywhere anytime. At first I thought I had no LSD but with this car its soooo bad. I bet when I pass people, they think I am drunk as I almost go off the road and then back into my lane in a hurry.

Its bad.

Maybe I will test drive another TC and see if its the same thing

Maybe I should try to turn it off but I am sure I still get it. I took a corner last week and then went to WOT and I was scared for my life. I was holding on to that wheel as hard as I could and I swear I had the tracktion and esc both turned off.

I don't get it when I normally take off, only when I give it some gas to get going quick.

Have the dealership check your alignment. Also make sure you tires are both equally inflated on both sides. The LSD really helps to.

No I never had my alignment done and I am pretty good with my tire pressures. I do have an LSD or atleast that what the sticker on my car said when I bought it.

I had the issue from day one. I would notice it.

Umm Whats a 2.7 and why would you spin from 40-65mph? lol That can't be good

You got those winter tires on right now ? What size ?
I didn't experience it that much in october with the stock tires and warmer asphalt.
But with the 205-50-17's and this cold asphalt full of grooves; at wot, it's pretty bad.

Yeah I still have the winters. They are like 215-50-17 I think so they are pretty wide but even on a good day on the highway I get pulled to the left or right side of the road. Umm I guess I will wait for warmer weather and see if it happens with my stock rims/tires and if so, just go into the dealer and complain.

Wait till you swap tires before taking it in. Like I said, mine didn't suck that bad with oem tires & wheels.
I drove the car only month before installing my winter tires. Couldn't believe the diff it made.... torque steer galore.

I only drove 100 km on the stock tires but I did notice it on the way home and to the tire place. I will wait and see.

I was looking at a drag video and the dude stayed in a perfect lane the whole way down so I assumed I was doing something wrong.

No issues with torque steer on my car. The only time the car likes to pull is when on I95 and the road is crowned.

Those big ass grooves in the asphalt don't help either.

You can let go of the steering wheel and they'll actually steer the car for miles up here... lol

At WOT in a powerful car, they make for very unsettling handling behaviours.

Car jerks around pretty bad and gets thrown in & out of them... real bad.

I just tried it now on a good road. Going straight I have no issues going from like 0-80km/h but if there is any turns or going around pot holes, thats when it starts to get all jerky and go crazy.

If you have zero torque steer ever then I dunno wtf I am doing wrong

ya that just seems funny, man. even in twisties, my steering seems to be pretty planted, so i think that something may be weird with your car. assuming you are aligned and correct tire presure etc, it shouldnt be doing that, i dont think. especially since you have the LSD etc.

It really may just be our wonderfully shitty Canadian roads, man. A lot of the guys claiming zero issues are Americans, who don't have quite the same concept of the winter-summer transition and its effect on asphalt

Keep an eye on it. If it persists when you re-mount the OEM wheels/tires and its THAT violent, then I'd say its a problem.

To alleviate your own concerns about actually having the LSD, go into the trunk and lift the left side of the carpet. There's a sticker on the metal underneath it with the car's options listing. Look for G85... If it's there, you're good to go.

We do in Chicago this year! Yesterday I saw at least 10 people lined up on the side of Lake Shore Drive with flats...it is completely insane when the roads are this bad and the city is too broke to fix them...

i may be wrong but i thought TQ steer was only in automatics cause of the Torque Converter... idk or i guess its used both ways...

Torque steering is the influence of the engine torque on the steering for some front-wheel drive vehicles. For example, during full acceleration the steering may pull to one side, which may be disturbing to the driver. This either causes a tugging sensation in the steering wheel, or else the car veers from the intended path. As the torque steer effect is directly related to the engine torque capabilities, this problem becomes more and more evident with high output engines with strong torque in the low RPM range.

Torque steering may be confused with steering kickback.

MS3's have lots of torque steer. thats why i got this

Hop in a high-powered FWD car at a standstill and stand on the throttle... See what the wheel does. Torque will steer the car in whatever direction it so chooses based on conditions. Setups like the SS Cobalts with limited-slip differentials and clever suspension tuning alleviate the problem somewhat. My dad's open-diff 05' Altima 3.5SE will steer into the other lane if you tramp on it without holding on tight.
