I'd love an upgraded and stronger tranny personally after breaking two 3rd gears. I'm keeping my eyes on this one.

awwwwwwwwwww
::hugs his srtc car::

the max rated trq capacity of the lsj tranny is 258.

if gm is going to do the staged upgrades like they did for the lsj on the lnf. the transmission will have to be beefier to handle it. small turbo = torque

The f40 6-speed is the GTP G6 trans lifted from Saab . Its been around for quite awhile .

Here's a little info

Its rated for 295 lbs/ft . Not too much more than the F35 . I dont put too much faith in those #'s though . The getrag trans is only rated for 170 tq and they can handle a ridiculous amount of power . I looked into the F40 before , Ive never seen any mention of it having a LSD in the G6 or the 9-3 . This trans is also used in the Opel Astra OPC ( VXr ) in Europe and is available there with a LSD .

Go to car-part.com and search for a manual trans in 2006 G6 . There several low mile or 0 mile F-40's for under 800 bucks

Yes , you missed the logic there . Our trans comes unmodified out of the 9-3 , and in the 9-3 , the optional 6-speed bolts up to the same engine . I dont have any sizes though of the case . Better question would be , will it clear the driverside rail of the Cobalt engine cradle .

Only thing need to worry is clearing the cradle like stated, and probably linkage. I doubt the linkage will be 100% the same exact location.

Remember, that the F-40's weak point is the clutch. Everything else is good for 350-400tq.

FYI. It is also 352mm wide. Time to go out to your car and measure.

I'm not sure this is the same F40. Thats the MU9 specs, the one listed for the SS/TC is an MWL.

The Fxx nomenclature is nothing more than a reference to the transaxle's torque rating iirc in Newton*Meters (350Nm-f35, 400Nm-f40, etc).

Should be no more difficult than changing out the clutch in our car. Just will be bolting a different tranny in when you go putting stuff back together.

Be nice if we could get pics of the MWL trans to compare.

Not sure, that would be a big selling point to most though. IIRC no LSD yet. I remember someone saying over in Europe the trans has an LSD as an option though.

Thanks for the correction Whitt . I will do some more digging on the MWL option code . Its possibly a new FWD version of the MU9 then , as the LNF will be going into the next gen 9-3 and Astra . I have access to GM Dealer world , so I'll see what I can pull up next week sometime .
