Searched the forums and could not find an exact answer to my question. After waiting what seems

to be forever for the GMS1 I decided it not what I want. I saw on Trifectas site that their tune is

"undetectable" to the dealer if warranty work is needed. So my question does anyone have this

tune and has needed something fixed (Power or drivetrain related)..and successfully done so under

warranty?

 

My car has been to the dealer 2 times since I got my tune, with no issues... I also have aftermarket charge pipe and intake and they haven't said a word.

 

What was the car in for?

 

I reflashed my car back to stock and went into the dealer to get my motor replaced. After I put about 1500 mi on the new motor I put the tune back on...

The infamous rear brake issue twice, and 2 oil changes. With the brakes I thought they may check to see if I had anything to void warranty, but they didn't say anything. I know it's nothing major, but it was there!

 

I hooked up my Hahn CAI and a trifecta Infiniboost tune, and after we fired her up for the first time and took her around the block, a low coolant message popped up. topped off with dexcool and did the same thing. It was leaking into my oil somehow... internal leaking in the motor... took about 2 months to replace at the dealer though.

 

That sucks, well, at least you got it replaced for free!

 

I had a tune that IS detectable (Superchips) and took my car in because I blew the fuel pressure solenoid thing...code P0091...they never said a thing. Spark plugs (misfire)...never said a thing. And I know this is going to be an unfavorable thing to say but...if you blow your engine and they suspect foul play...they'll send the computer in and find the tune another way...The tune is on there...just not in the traditional way. Vince had even said in a past post that he can't guarantee anything beyond them running a Tech 2 on it to see if there's a tune of any sort. So what I'm saying is they can find it if they really want to...but will they really want to? Probably not...My car was throwing codes and I've been tuned damn near since I got the car and they've never said a thing..and I KNOW it's been hooked to a Tech 2. And if something MAJOR does happen (doubtful)...and it turns out it's my aftermarket parts or tune that caused the damage and they call me out on it...then I'll gladly pay for it because...well...you gotta pay to play kiddies.

 

^ one of the most honest owners i have ever seen. I have had my tune for 18,000 miles already and never been to the dealership for anything yet. If I did have to go and they find my tune then tough ****. I assume my warrenty is gone the second I bought my car. I didn't buy my car to have 260hp/260tq then get a crappy gm stage kit. I have more goals then that.

 

I most defiantly figured that its not 100% "undetectable" but im just trying to explore other options, because

when i bought the car a year and a half ago I bought the extended warranty for the car. If i would of known

ahead of time that for some reason there are not any re programmers that dont void the warrenty i would

not have gotten it. After seeing the effortless numbers come from the stage kit, along with the price tag

I blatantly need something else.

 

Tell me you're not saying that you thought for some reason the GM stage kit was going to be as good as the aftermarket and cheap on top of that? I would say since you wasted the money on the extended warranty and you appear to be worried about the warranty...just get the stage kit and then hold out until your warranty is up and mod it further...or prepare to pay the consequences if you go aftermarket while still under warranty...pretty simple concept.

 

Stage kit is a good idea if you want the parts for a larger turbo build when there is something available.

and leave your stock ecm alone.
that way you just swap em if anything ever goes wrong

 

I most defiantly knew the price was coming, but when I had heard that they downgraded the kit put out 10 hp less than the kit they already had for the other models, that's when I lost all motivation. Yeah maybe your right about getting the stage kit...having to pay for a blown motor with the funds of a guy in college .. Ill just have to impulse buy something i guess.

 

lol impulse purchases are the best ones...this car for example was one of those.

On the other hand...among all the LNFs out there between the HHR, Cobalt, Solstice, and Sky...how many blown motors have there been...not many at all...a small handfull of guys with messed up heads/valves/lifters but nothing too crazy...and I would venture to guess there's a lot of guys that aren't stock. It seems GM actually built an engine that can take a beating...so the odds of something major going wrong where you would need to shell out for a new engine are pretty slim I would say...that's the way I see it...which is why I said screw the powertrain warranty...the thing I plan on ruining (clutch) wouldn't be covered anyways.

 

Just buy a spare ecm and swap them

I have a Jet module on mine and honestly its done a decent job but im thinking about getting a better tune and thats a safer route altogether!
