Trifecta Tuning Ottawa
Trifecta Tuning Ottawa
Hey guys,
I'm going to be getting a tune for my TC hopefully in the next few months. I've done lots of searches here and on the web and was leaning toward the ZZP canned tune until I came across Trifecta Ottawa. Has anyone on here been tuned by them for their Cobalt? I've found lots of great reviews for other vehicles but nothing regarding Cobalts. I've heard the "Trifecta is terrible" stuff on the Facebook groups but it sounds like a lot of them are talking about the old Trifecta tunes was it the "new" thing for the Cobalts.
I've emailed the guy who runs the place and it sounds alright. He uses data logs and has apparently tuned lots of Cobalts including his own. Also like that you can switch between stock and tuned with a button.
Any input is appreciated. I don't have a ton of cash to spend on a fully custom tune and the engine has like 250kms on it already, so I'm trying to be careful what gets done to it. Thanks!

I have dealt with Trifecta many times. They are a bit expensive and sometimes a bit slow but they do a pretty good job on the tune. The multiple map thing is pretty cool too!
If you end up going this route and need one of their cables, I have one that I wont be using anymore.

From my understanding, with a Trifecta tune once you tune through them the ECU is locked, making it untunable by others using HPT. I have always heard to stay away from trifecta as well, unless it's your only option, like 05/06 base models. I also heard Trifecta was no longer supporting cobalts anymore. I used a "canned tune" from ZZP on my stock k04r, with k&N intake, catless DP and made 300WHP and 350tq on 91, so their "canned tune" is pretty decent, and the price after all is said and done is pretty decent at about $200.
I have seen what Trifecta charges on thier website, and its a lot. For the price I seen, you can buy HPT and the credits needed to tune. Then you just have to pay the tuner. If you're looking for afordable, ZZP offers tuning and in the end it costs about $200 plus shipping. If your initial tune is with ZZP they also offer free retuning for minor changes to dial in the the tune, and if you swap something major like the turbo, they only charge $40.
My story -
I ordered my tune and my 3 bar map sesors kit from ZZP on black friday 2016. I think I paid $200 plus shipping after the black friday discounts. I needed my car to still run while they wrote the tune and sent the ECU, so I paid a core charge of 100 or 125 that was refunded after I sent in my stock ECU. If you can wait you might be able to do the same thing noone really kows what they will being for black friday until that time comes. Me personally, I highly recommend buying HPT, then you can avoid shipping costs to and from Canada for ECUs, wait times, and you don't have to rely on someone else to be available to flash your tunes.
