Tune

I use hptuners for my personal cars tuning needs. My buddy has a 2010 cobalt ss and would like me to tune it. I have no experience tuning turbo cars, can anyone point me to a good tune that can just be downloaded to the car?

Thanks

Check the hptuners repository. Although it's better to start from scratch and go from there because every car is different.

Cool, I found the BYT tune in the repository. So it's a legit tune? He says it's a fairly safe tune and not overly aggressive. My buddy has a muffler delete and factory intake. I think I'll load that tune up and change the timing if need be.

Is it ok to flash a 2009 tune on a 2010 pcm?

One more question, .88 lambda is equivalent to around 12.6:1 - 12.8:1 AFR correct? Is this to lean for the turbo cobalt? (This is the AFR included in the tune)

The stock afr is 14:1 in the midrange and drops to 12.8:1 at the top end so its perfectly normal/safe. Head over to the hptuners forum for more tuning tips

.88 PE Lambda is a good safe place to start. BYT wouldn't steer you wrong.

ya, if I had a friend with a tc balt (which I know nothing about) I would still tune him, wouldn't charge him besides $100, but what the hell.. doesn't sound like there is alot to tc's anyways, they are all cobalts.

I wouldn't say "ya I tune my car with this software that also works on yours"...... "go get a trifecta tune homo"

That tune is a pretty solid tune really. I would honestly not just regard it as a final tune, just keep in your mind "this is a good starting point" there's much to be improved upon since I made that one.

You will need to MAF tune the car, even if it's on the stock intake. That will clear up a lot of random KR you will see. And I would ramp the MAL slower compared to that repository tune, make it ramp up smooth to 100 at 4K instead of 3k I think that one has. Ive found the boost holds flatter and the clutch lasts longer while still making the same peak wtq.

Also, I would run 09 stock cam tables. The ones in that file are slightly tweaked and we've found them to not be AS fast while they made a couple more whp. You can decide yourself really there too.

I would copy everything from that file to the 2010 file you download from the car and then start maf tuning.

Actually it makes a ton of sense. Considering I am running a trifecta base file to use the higher boost and fuel pressures that vince has worked out. HP can't do certain things on an LNF yet. Term tuned mine via HP and it is leaner and more aggressive with timing that timing than vince will do. Course I may not know what I'm talking about I'm only at like 400 lbs/ft of torque at the wheels, give or take a few depending on the dyno.
