Turbo surge, wut is it??
Ok just like the title says. Ive search on here about it w everyone talking about it and everything and im just finding the "how to fix" it stuff. But im wanting to know wut it is exactlly, and how can i pay attention to the car to see if im getting it or not. I know this seems like a newb question, and yes this is my first turbo car, so lease be gentle on the flamming
Thanks in advance

Go on YouTube and type in "Compressor Surge".
Thousands of videos.
Basically... you make boost... but there is more air moving than what the motor demands... and it only has one place to go... back out the way it came in (aka out the turbo inlet). This can be caused by a few different things... most common ones are the Throttle Body Butterfly closing... and the BOV not opening, not opening enough, or not opening soon enough... or by hitting too much boost before the throttle body is fully opened. There are a few other reasons.
That's a real rough... basic description.

Compressor surge is a rapid decelleration of the compressor wheel that takes place when there is not enough energy being harnessed by the exhaust wheel to drive the compressor wheel at the current speed and pressure ratio.

from what ive seen i got it a lot from the TB not opening enough for the amount of boost being made... the stock BPV is a piece of crap and get stuck closed longer than it should since they decided to put a steel slug in the middle of a piece of rubber in an aluminum housing and not expect everything to expand at different rates... my car has ZERO flutter now with the Forge BPV and as i've always heard i hear a single solid deep chirp if i run out 2nd or third and clutch it at 5500 or so but i blame that on insufficient sizing on the bpv openings on the turbo itself.
basically keep the stock airbox and get a forge bpv and you'll be good... forge bpv may be 150 bucks but when you see the quality of the part you'll wonder how/why GM is charging 60 bucks or whatever for the stock replacement...
