Warranty info on the Stage 1 Kit
Warranty info on the Stage 1 Kit
This may be a question that has been beat to a pulp, but my doubts have crept in...
I contaced two Chevy dealers before I purchased and installed the GM STAGE 1 KIT. Both dealers refused to do the install because they claimed that even though it was a GM product, they a) had no techs in the back that knew how to do it and b) it would void my 5 year 100,000mi power train warranty. I asked who could do the install and they both told me to "check the yellow pages for a tuner shop and if it breaks don't come crying back here unless your prepared to pay for whatever is wrong". They said that whatever breaks on the car from here on out, it is just going to be determined that I have aftermarket parts on it (so that means I was racing it) and nothing will be covered.
I finally contacted another dealership, which was recommended by another guy on here (Freeway Chevrolet in Chandler, AZ) and they told me it doesn't void the warranty because it is a GM product and they could do the install because they had already done two others. I had it done last Friday, and besides the fact that I am broke until next Friday, it has been a blast. It really does get loose from a roll in second gear!!! =)
So does it void the warranty? Is there proof from GM that it is covered? Maybe a GM employee can check the GM bulletins to see if there are any posts about it being covered?
It's kind of too late now, but I would like some clarification...
THANKS GUYS!

It does *not* void your warranty. Feel free to mention to any of these other dealers that you can order a 2010 SS with the kit already installed.
That's regarding the supercharged cars, but I believe you're correct.

Technically they cannot void the warranty for having the kit installed. However, calling abuse to have your warranty voided is very easy. And if they see the chance to pull that card they will. Wear on your tires, crappy shift linkage breaking enough times, "pushing more turbo through the BCM." That last one is a quote from a service manager at Jupiter Chevrolet.
It's hard for many people to find a trust worthy service department. But it's well worth the search.

i think it's funny that a dealership is so quick to call abuse or unnatural wear on a vehicle that is designed to go fast and take a bit of abuse... obviously taking your car to the track and driving it like an idiot 24/7 is the exception... but givin'r once in a while shouldn't be a big deal and should not cause damage that shouldn't exist or happen with a car designed to perform a certain way. i've been lucky so far with my issues but they are still unresolved and the dealership is still trying to find the cause of the noises my car makes... but the second dealership that looked at my car said that a car like this should be built to take some abuse and perform and it should in no way default your warranty unless extreme abuse is found. definately shop around for a good service department and if you don't like what you hear go elsewhere...
i have had work done under warranty since i got my kit. Extra boost unseated a hose. CEL told the dealer i was doing 5500rpm and 20psi when it happened, never brought up abuse. I think it all depends on the dealer.
