Yes, rust & brake dust are normal in rain or humid environments. I have more rust & dust on the front rotors in the rain. The first few stops will squeal, but it should go away after that for the day. However, be sure to have your husband look at the INSIDE rear rotors for scoring.

At least you're getting it done for free. Unfortunately, they will probably put the same kind of pads back on.

Well I didn't go through the whole thread but I'm gonna be pretty close to the quickest rotor wear ever. I only have 1061 miles on my car and can feel multiple grooves on both sides of both rear rotors. WTF!!!

The grooves are normal. They don't necessarily mean that you are wearing the inside pad down to nothing. I would recommend that anyone with a new 'Balt SS/TC immediately replace the rear pads with some other brand.

why are the grooves normal tho because the front rotors are completely smooth. Is it the pad quality or the way the rear pads wear that causes the rotors to become grooved?

took my car in the other day to have the clutch looked at the E brake the sunroof and the rear brakes. they said that they sanded the brakes and applied silencer lube to the pads only for them to start squeaking 3 again 3 days later. it started at about 5000 miles. i'm about ready to take the car back and say thanks but no thanks. i had to many problems out of my 06 SS and swore i wouldnt do it again with this new car.

I went today to get my rear breaks looked at today at the dealership. I have enjoyed are dealership and they have been kinda helpful. So they said they cant do any thing about it and thats how it works. They are so loud and have atlest groves on the inside .03. They gave me 2 papers saying how they cant do any thing. I was like it would of been quicker to just fix them then get all the paper work.

This is why Chevy is going down hill they dont care about there cars or the people driving them.

I am 20 years old and I bought this car mainly because its a chevy! and I wanted to buy the 2010 2500HD but today I told them because of this 100$ break problem They are going to lose me. I will never buy a chevy agian.

They also could not change my oil life to 100% they said I have to deal with it. So now it says change oil soon all the time.FML

I am going to write in the sunday paper about how ****@ty they are and how they treated me.

I dont get why chevy would want a 2009 drive on the road and sound like $hit. That makes people not want to buy them. O well I am going to go to another dealership to get this fixed.

Alright the comment about the oil makes me think you should never go there again.

Put the key in the run position.
Then press and hold the info and reset button at the same time.

Then scroll to oil life and reset it.

Method 2. Not sure if this still works, turn the key in the run position and pump the gas peddle 3 times.

My rear rotors and pads are shot at 16k miles. I took it into the dealership and they looked at it but told me that no service bulletins has been put out and that they couldn't find a defect - lol.

I printed off the NHTSA complaint reports about the rear brakes for both 08 and 09 models. They said that the internet couldn't be a reliable source of information.

They are going to replace both the rotors and pads as an act of goodwill since I bought the car from the dealership. Now I have to wait probably 2 weeks for the parts to come in.

I just can't believe that GM is trying to cover this up. This is a known issue within the Cobalt community.

I took that to my dealership and they gave me a little bit of crap at first, but I made it known I'm not going to pay them to have any rear brake work done.
Talk to somebody higher up at the dealership. Show them reports of other owners having problems.

Well I went to another dealership today and loved it. I went to a small chevy dealership and told them about my rear breaks and how almost everyone is haveing a problem. After waiting for 30mins to see if they could do anything about it they told me the same thing all the other dealerships say sorry we cant do anything about it. I asked to talk to the head guy he looked at my rotors and said hey we cant buy you new ones but we can fix them.....they turned them took another hour and bang there fixed.
So it took an hour and a half and they fixed it for free....I hope this is the last time I have a problem with my breaks.
Because I went to a smaller dealership they let me walk around and look under my car.

If you guys are having a hard time getting them fixed I would try a smaller dealership....I had to drive 30 mins.

Also they said that the rear complaint reports cant help
