Be sure to complain to CAC and file a complaint with the NHSTA:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/complaints/results.cfm

NHSTA hasn't seen very many complaints on this recently.

I had to go to 3 dealerships to get my pads even looked at. Getting them replaced under warranty. 16k miles. They say its my fault because I didn't lube the caliper slide pins... I doubt they even did that from the factory... We'll see, I should have it back tomorrow. The pads are backordered and had to be shipped in from northern canada.
Sorry for the bad grammer, its bed time, just got off work...

Why would you be expected to lube the pins? Guess what - they weren't lubed at the factory, and that is at least part of the problem!

95 Corvette - Brakes last forever, and they work well, too!
09 Cobalt SS - rotors turned at 4600 miles; pads & rotors replaced, slide pins lubed at 8000.

Just under 14,000 miles and mine are shot! No warning other than 3 days of rain and I started to hear grinding...I took the car in to get the snow tires installed, so I had them check the rears. Inside pads gone and the rotors are grooved beyond repair! 9,000 of my 14,000 miles are highway miles. They are going to cover the repairs. I guess at 30,000 miles I will go the aftermarket route

Dude squeaking is nothing. Go out and hit the brakes hard and it goes away. Its also not the rears the do that ussually, the rears are more of a grinding noise.

Yep I did. The dealer I work at said that GM wasnt going to warranty them. But I showed him this thread and he was like thats bs that they wont. So he is just pushing it threw. Been about three months just waiting for the rotors to get off back order.

but yea my breaking ability got pretty bad, i used to be able to just slam and stop and then before i took it in the rears felt pretty shaky.
so i just wanted it looked at.

mine are starting to squel bad even after i spray the brakes at the car wash and a few hard stops to cleanse them out.

What should I look for in the way of further damage so i can take it in if there is a problem and know what im talking about....?

premature wear and grooving/scorching on the rotors, it should mostly be on the back side.
not mostly the front.
as well as the pads being worn down.

i actually just called in cause the dumb ******* kept my car overnight and didn't tell me.
no calls yesterday, took it in at 1 pm and i got nothing.
i finally called it at 1030 today and they told me they were still looking at it and wanted to be thorough.
however apparently gm has a bulletin posted that says not to service ss's and hhrs with breaks that are squeaking because of some sort of difference.
what kind of **** that is...i don't know.
all i know is i want my car to not sqeak as i just bought it, and i want my car back now as well. i was told it would be a few hours but here we are 2nd day and i have no car, and its my daily.
-slightly annoyed-

-edit-
just got a call and they are telling me the rear pads are gonna get a lube treatment.
like i shoulda from factory.

I had to get pretty loud to get my brakes warrantied. Parts were ordered and received a few days later. The service manager said they were new part numbers. I had the work done on 9/30.

my rear rotors and pads were shot by 15k miles, and this is with spirited daily driving, no track ever.

They were really cool about warrantying them. They said something like you get 1 warranty coverage under 25k miles. 15k is obviously premature and there is a problem with our rear rotors and pads, duh. The service manager tried to tell me that this was most likely caused by driver abuse on the car.

I then asked him how the condition of the front Brembos were. He responded " Oh, those are doing fine"

/facepalm.

BTW, good news at least- I have 6k miles on the warranty replaced rotors n pads and there is no sign of scoring or any problems. Hmmm.

I'm at 7K miles and the inside of the rear rotor's are shot .... grooved and make noise just backing out of the driveway. It must be pretty common cause we ordered the parts at my dealership ( I actually ordered them myself ) 2 weeks ago and they came in this Tuesday . It took 1 week just to get the pads lol.

MIne has been fixed by a friend that is a very good GM Tech, @ 23000 he thought the rotors were shot, but after talking to GM he cut the rotors and removed all the grooves. He told the rears on th TC are thicker than the fronts on some of the other GM vehicles. But if you go to the delearship and they don't know about it they won't be able to find it as it is an internal GM posting. It caused by a bad pad compound and there is an update for them. My friend got to them through the front rotor recall which was done on my 08 at the factory. I hopes this helps if it's a repost in this thread I'm sorry as I didn't read the whole thread.

It was all documented as my buddy wanted to make sure there were no problems with GM honoring the claim. Also I talked to him last night and he told me the rottors still have atleast on mor resurfacing for a brake job left in them and that's why GM didn't replace them.

I just got off the phone with my service manager where i got my car, my brakes were rough at 3,700 miles they looked at them said it was normal so i went along with it now at 22k they are metal to metal they say and wont replace them because they are expected to get 23-25k out of the rear brakes before replacing. GM is no longer paying for the pads and rotors to be replaced they claimed i claim this car is a piece of shitt and this is my 5 problem with it in 6 months of having it

Time to go to a different delearship. GM covered mine a t 23,000. You just need to find a tech to go throught the proper channels. Some service dept.s are better than others.

here were my brakes at 4980, dealer wont replace them because gms service limit on grooved rotors is .059 and mine were only .012. so i took the car back to my shop and fixed it my self took photos and wrote a lengthy email to the dealer and gm. probably wont do much but i sent it to the owner of the dealer ship him self with some choice words hopefully they will get back to me. but i told them i wouldn't recommend them for service because they don't listen to their customers
