where to get billet oil pump gears?

Hello,
After much searching I'm coming up empty on finding billet oil pump gears. There are many references to Bates Engineering, but from what I can tell they don't exist anymore. Is there an alternative?

Daniel

Nothing yet, but that's what I would like to avoid. It sounds like a weak point for cars that spend time on track with an easy solution, if I can find the parts.

Anyone spending a consecutive amount of time above 8k should have hardened oil pump gears, not billet ones.

Also the expansion issue of the gears seems to have been atributed to the stpck balancer, so those on ATIs should be fine

Thanks Andrew. It's odd that the only place to find these gears is in Canada...

tomj77, Bates gears are mentioned in the ecotec build book from GM and there are a couple cases reported of failed gears. It sounds like cheap insurance to me.

I know this is an old post but I sell the hardened oil pump gears and adjustable cam gears.

For my build I disassembled the front cover and sent the gear and rotor to SPC for surface treatment, combined with a race damper this should handle 8,000 rpm sustained without exploding.

How much for the pump gears? Were they produced by Bates?

I've spoken to Jeff on facebook and he made it appear that he had the exclusive on hardened oil pump gears and claims other supplier's methods of hardening are not "real" hardened oil pump gears. I tried to ask him what alloy he uses but he said it was secret. From what I could gather he has a machine shop mill the oil pump gears out of some flavor of hardened steel.

I have an old Bates hardened oil pump gear in mine. Do you know if they heat treated and used the stock oil pump gear alloy or if they used a different alloy altogether?

You can tell a heat treated gear from a machined gear. Look at a stock then mine. Mine are slightly rougher outside surface compared to billion dollar gm machines.
