So my car was just written off from a gravel truck loosing gravel more info here
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/cana...ml#post7653056

Anyway insurance's first offer was $8100 CAD (6k USD) with a 2k CAD buy back option.
It's an 08 SS with 180k kms (112k miles)

It's exactly the amount I expected to get.

I bought the car in 2012 with 20k kms (11k miles) for $14,700. That's not terrible depreciation.

Same here.

But I get pissed at bugs splattering on my front end, so I'd probably go ballistic at the driver lol.

Sucks to hear cluelessk, you going to buy it back and fix it or take the money?

Never visit Colorado then. Gravel haulers here are the worst, 90% of them don't properly cover their load as in they don't even pull back the wind cover at all. Apparently the CO State Patrol is more concerned with cars speeding than gravel and stone leaving trucks at 70mph and destroying windshields and paint jobs.

DITTO.... and I have had to pull over a gravel truck before. Day after a brand new windshield was put in my Sierra pickup a gravel truck took it out!

One thing most people don't talk about much right now is the used car market. It's awful.

The last few years we saw record sales for many manufacturers. Which lead to a ton of slightly used cars on the car market.

Too much inventory and not enough demand. It killed a lot of used car prices including ours.

Also one thing a lot of Cobalt owners down understand is even if they paid $20k+ for their car new, many of us did not. Many of us got Cobalt SS/TC for $17-18k brand new. I got $18,250 with 8 miles on it.

Car is worth about $4k now. 20% of initial value isn't bad after 9 years.

Ya it's so cheap to borrow money now everyone is just buying new and financing it forever.

They only see the monthly cost not the overall.

The economy was doing fine before the green rush, unemployment was around 4-5%. The housing market is overvalued, outdated ranch homes on a city lot are selling in 1-3days for over 300k. Rent costs have basically doubled for 1 bedroom units from 600-700 to 1000-1400 depending on the location and they aren't super nice modern units, again 80s appliances and cheap flooring.

Took some local people at a car meet to Starbucks and they were surprised. Brembos factory, seats factory (they complimented how comfortable they were), KO4 factory (one had a gti with a ko3), one even said "this car makes all the right noises." It's a great economical, fun, dailyable car to me. Still gets 23ish mpg having fun, still quick to spool, haven't had any major issues yet (knock on wood I think my clutch may have started slipping). Then again, I'm a very stock representation of the SS...

Its fun surprising coworkers sometimes haha. I met with some co-workers at a local dairy creamery at lunch time. My one coworker took most of the female group in his car but was a slow eater with the ice cream. being finished as well as everyone else, I took the group of girls back who seemed very attracted to the bright yellow cute sedan. They were surprised very quickly by how torque-y the car was. The one girl went Woooooo but I wasnt even getting on it. The one in my passanger seat said wow this is pretty fast. I said I havent even pushed the pedal down yet lol. When I had a clean straight with no cars around, I punched it and heard the Wooooo turn into a Ooohhhh!. When we got back to work, I found out that one of the girls wanted to ride in a different car because the other guy was driving too fast LOL. woops.

P.S. I will say these cars really slow down with a squad of 4 in the car. And I wasnt carrying any heifers either.

So why are the cars going for so cheap? Great car, great gas mileage, track demon, it is everything a driver would want except for rear wheel drive.

Is there something that has happened that I do not know about? I truly do not understand this.

Asking for honest opinions. The cobalt SS is one of the best overall cars I have had and I simply cannot fathom selling it for as cheap as they are going for.

Looking for feedback.
Thanks

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you as I'll be selling my 2008 SS.

How much were you hoping/expecting to sell it for?
