it makes a big difference! i got my car weighed at two different locations and it's 3000 pounds without me in it. around a half tank both times no other 'weight adders' like subs or anything

100 pounds is nothing when they have less torque at 8000 rpm then we do at idle.

Yeap, I've seen lots of rust bucket crx/hatchs run below 12 on street tires.

I was having a conversation about this with a buddy just the other day...

I live in Franklin, TN and I go to a few local meets that are (mostly) filled with idiots and jackasses that somehow have a substantial amount of money. Lots of STI's Evos and the like with a few hondas interspursed.

Believe it or not the hondas are the LEAST ricerish out of all of them and always give me props. This is a big reversal from when I was in highschool as the honda scene was generally just terrible in TN. My theory is that alot of these "ricer" honda guys grew up a little but retained their love of cars. They now have the $ to put into them and have outgrown their shitty phase and have picked up a lot of knowledge in the process.

On the other hand we have all the late 20's early 30's guys who have worked their way though some shitty jobs into a decent paying position and are now able to afford STI/EVOs and most of these guys (at least down here) came from the redneck mini truck scene that was cool in their day and never really had a performance car - which is why they generally they believe they are the ****. They buy into the fanboyism 110%.

(massive amount of stereotypes here I KNOW but just bear with me)

I literally had a guy with a 2012 STI with the basic cobb tune on it tell me that he would probably put 4-5 cars on me from a 40 roll. So we went out on the hwy for a quick run and he brought his girl with him. We took off and I walked him pretty easily by about a car legnth from 40-110ish (my car only has an IC and catless dp/muffler delete - no tune)

He proceeded to say "dude your car shot flames out i thought it blew up, I cant believe you bought that car dude there is something wrong with it." (talking about the NLS)

Then he tried to get his girl out of the car at the next exits gas station because she was the reason he lost (she maybe weighed 90lbs) and he was just gonna leave here sitting there at exxon in murfreesboro. I just laughed at him and drove off. Idiot.

And that really goes for all of the morons out here with this type of car, they're the ones racing in and out of traffic at 7am when people are trying to get to work or drop their kids off at school. SMH. :

I.completely agree with you on this. Here in Colorado Springs, CO, there is a meet held every Saturday at the best buy by the mall here. All different types of cars from.bikes to hondas, from supras to corvettes.

A lot of the lower funded cars tend to have nice, courteous owners who appreciate what they have and everyone else. While the guys with evos and big V8s tend to think highly of themselves. Although there are some very nice guys who just want to see what everyone is working with.

I was very suprised when a young gentleman with a brand new 2013 5.0 Convertible pulled up and wanted to race. It was stock except for brembo package, think it had 3.31 gears. We did a 40-100 roll. I put 3 cars on him first race because he missed third ( clearly audible). Second race I only put maybe a car on him. Those things are quick stock I found out. He gave me a big thumbs up and complimented me on my ride, that made my night

Quickly everyone is beginning to fathom the capability of these small 2.0 LNF motors, especially the ones who point and laugh at first.

We have similar meets up here in Denver but they are full of mexicans with Hondas who want to fight eachother and bring weapons and break **** on cars. Waste of time

I was out at a local meet/hangout with jonathan923 and a few other lsj guys. Some real Dirt bag looking kid comes over in his **** kickers, all unlaced and in a wife beater and asked " so which on of these is supercharged ?"

we looked at each other and were like all of them ...

And he goes "i have a 300zx twin turbo wana race ?" (thinking that he could walk all over a lsj)

So jonathan923 goes out and runs him twice from a roll, he put car lengths on this guy like a boss lol

-Just goes to show how underestimated people are when it comes to cobalt's, especially lsj's

I've seen quite a few staged LSJs destroy 99-04 Mustang GTs with damn near all bolt ons, it really pisses them off lol

Whats amusing is that the STI/EVO/CSS are all based on cheap econoboxes yet some members of the exclusive econobox club feel entitled to bash others. If you ever get flack point out that all of our POSs are based on $12k econobox chassis'.

I just moved back to TN from Denver (I remember we were gonna meet up - bummer)

But I raced a white brand new STI on I-70 going up into the mountains right after the golden exit (up the bigass hill) and from a 50ish roll I put 2 cars on him with 3 people and snowboarding stuff/beer for the day in my car. He tried to ricer flyby when I let off and I let him pass... passed him again and then gave him a thumbs up on the way by at around 120ish (the STi's dont do well at this speed anyway lol) - he didn't look too happy.

When I get beat by something I give a thumbs up and have a huge smile on my face... I don't care what it is. I think people need to re-evaluate why they are (or if they should be) car guys/gals. There is no reason to be a dick. ever.

One of the reasons I love my car is that the people who drive them are (usually) not ****** because they bought their cars on their merit and because its hard to make a logical argument against its performance. I didn't even consider a cobalt until i started researching what I could afford and then... Wait the cobalt did WHAT at VIR??? and then WHAT at the Nurburgring??? Both are good ammunition for the evo/sti/s2k fanbois.

I had to take out my kids car seats last night before I hit the track lol. when I got beat by that prelude I wasnt upset. I heard the turbo spool up so I knew it was rough. then find out he was fully built pushing over 430hp I think. then the next two times we lined up he couldnt hook and I beat him. we had a good convo after.

watch the attitudes of certain groups of owners for a while. you'll see patterns develop-- like the most insecure bullies pick the cars they think are the most powerful or most intimidating, or the more thoughtful guys pick the cars they KNOW they can build to beat the big guns, etc

it never changes

don't like it? get off the playground or establish youself as a non player ( get a car that's "bigger" than theirs, or completely oustside their thing)
That's exactly why I didn't get an SRT-4. Attitude of the owners. Didn't want to have "oh, you're one of them?" attitudes from other car enthusiasts.

Truth. That was my reasoning also. Turbo Cobalt has the biggest bang for the buck in the price range. And it's a killer from a roll.
