1st and 2d Gear "Whine?"

Hey all, wondering if I might have a potential problem. I'm not sure if everyone gets this or what- but I don't think it was there when I first got the car... I'm getting a sort of whining noise from the engine, it isn't too loud and not sure if it can be heard outside of the cabin or not. It seems to happen when accelerating slowly in first and second gear. Seems to go quiet after that. Wondering if anybody else has experienced it. Could it be my belt needs to be sprayed? The whine seems to get higher pitched as the rpms go up, so maybe it is the belt?

Do I have a potential problem? Is it possible that it's related to the cold weather of winter now?

Thanks

The trans tends to whine a bit particularly when cold. As long as you aren't hearing a whine when you're in boost then there should be no cause for concern

This. Also, our car's drivetrain is a bit on the noisy side to begin with. You should never need to spray your belt.

Wait, Wait, Wait... who told you it was ever ok so put ANYTHING on an engines accessory belt or timing belt? That is the only problem I see in this post. Your trans is fine.

Probably talking about the old school belt dressing to stop squealing belts.

mine whines and i took it to the dealer a few days ago for that among other things... basically i've been told it was normal. they've recently torn down another local guys trans apart and replaced the bearings when he had actual issues so i'm pretty sure its just normal FWD transmission taking power and flexing/wearing... they were aware of them pushing the input shaft out so i'm just going to wait for it to get worse.

Could it be the way the 1 and 2 gears are shaped? I remember seeing a video on jbody that had some kind of british race cars that made the same whine noise as the ss/tc's, just ours is a lot more subtle then the video's.

Alright sounds good guys. I just got my injector problem solved and was thinking I had a new problem like "here we go again." Good to know that I'll be able to drive my car issue free for the first time since I got it in May.

Like everybody says-"normal" unless you hear it at cruising speed. I had bearings and a gear replaced (took over a month). Still whines when cold even after lube change.
