2008 SS Compression 0%

Hey Guys Glad to finally join the community! I’ve been looking to this community for advise for years and has helped me a lot so thank you! So I have an issue with my car. I have low compression in cylinders 3 and 4 with 4 having 0%. This is the second time this has happened. So that’s why Ill upgrade. A mechanic suggested I get supertech valve springs and valves. I have read that the Supertech Valves have broken resulting in engine failure pretty much destroying it. I have also been suggested Ferrea Valves. I have 2 questions and any help or suggestions you have is greatly appreciated so fire way. Has anyone used supertech valve spring kit with Ferrea Valves together? Also I called Ferrea and they Have valves for a lsj 2.2L engine mine is 2.0L lnf, are the valves the same size for both engines?

Thanks guys!

Why the loss in compression though? Did you have a valve or valve spring failure? Or are you just upgrading the valvetrain while the head is off?

I believe all Ecotec valves are the same size. LSJ's are sodium filled. LNF's are sodium filled Inconel. Stick with stock LNF valves; they're quality units - if they failed, it's typically because you did something wrong.

ZZP also makes valve springs that are a bit cheaper than the Supertech kit, and they've been working on this platform for 15 years.

Thank you! Well I got on it on the Freeway took it up to about 120 and when I got off the freeway it sounded bad almost like a Diesel engine. It’s the second time.

What are your mods? Stock turbo? GMS1 or custom tuned? That sounds more like a piston ring issue than a head/valve issue. If it IS a valve issue... then it's probably actually a timing chain/tensioner issue.

This. I'm betting ringland said bye bye, likely related to KR or to much boost (then heat then rings meet)

Correct it is custom tuned and the mechanic said it had too much boost. As far as the mods, the owner before did all of them. Ide have to go back and see the ad for it. I’m in process right now of buying the spring kits. But zzp is out of stock on there valves so is Ferrea and Supertech! Not really sure what to do.
I could start by having him look at the timing chain.

If your running a stock turbo there is little reason to upgrade your valve train.

I would get your tune figured out before beating on it again.

It is critical that you pick the right tuner because you shouldn't be burning valves. If anything I would throw a stock Lnf tune on it.
