Really? You honestly think modifying this car is expensive? I just paid ~$2300 shipped to my door for a Powell 4.45 transmission. That's a complete and total bargain. If you can't afford something like that, or think it's expensive, then please stay out of the hobby or start collecting more pennies because after being heavily into the LSx world this platform is as cheap and easy as it gets.

^ this. Don't get me wrong, I'm one of those cheap guys too, but it is funny to see how the cost of modding is viewed everywhere else. In the Kappa world (Solstice/Sky), people have no issue throwing down $20k for a V8 swap . Then there's me who chose the route of ZZP's ZFR for $2k, and I'm making nearly the same amount of power to the wheels. It must be a miracle that ZZP can even make money off this market.

I have the F40 and love it. I have big power goals though, so it seemed like the best choice, and I saved 13% on black friday. I am not preaching for you to go out and get it, but you stated there was no interest in it, however there are a few of us that are running it.

..

How is the acceleration on that F40? Is it better then the F35's and how would the overdrive compare? And does it have a better ( longer ) 1st gear? Planning on a 4.45 G85 swap, but I would like to know how the driving feel is.

I want to know has anyone broke the 4.05 lsj trans in their lnf. If I went zfr this would be my only option and cheapest.

Its hard to compare because I went from a TVS on stock 4.05 trans to built motor, turbo, and F40. I can tell you that 1st gear seems longer, and it doesn't have that dead spot in 2nd if you shift to early when normal driving, 2nd is a tad shorter, 3rd seems a little shorter yet, 4th is quite a bit shorter which is nice when going from 3-4 at WOT. 6th is nice for cruising. At 75 I am around 2500-2600 rpms or so. Overall the gearing is just so well balanced and the trans just feels so tight and solid. Driving around town is so effortless. Shifting is just solid, thats the only way I can explain it lol. I only have about 450 miles on it, so my experience is limited, but that is what my "feel" is so far. I am very happy with my purchase, but again I am going for big power so I went all out.

What kind of tune are you running? Numbers? With my luck once I do get mine running I'll blow the tranny next. Was considering E85 but threads like this freak me out!

This gives me hope , I can't wait to slap in a f40 6 speed. It's rather tempting . If GM put it in the GS , I have the GS engine block in my car so maybe its a match made in heaven.

Whats Stronger f40 6 speed or F35 cyro....

Whats faster, better for highway pulls I would love to see a race between the two with similar Dyno numbers f35 445 vs 6 speed f40

If I do the f40 I will have to make vids so people can decide.

I just fear for the lack of parts ZZP is producing. If they become non existent. Well.. without some serious fab knowledge. You aren't going anywhere with that trans if the custom side axle takes a dump. That clutch plate. finding after market clutches. It seems glorious to add another gear especially with the f40 gears being divided between shafts seems like GM had it built for reliability hence it being in one of their latest flagship buick models. Buicks goal has a lot to do with reliability.

6 speed in my sedan would be **** for sure. Would feel new and refined I am betting.

Short clip for a comparison of a 4.45 trans with a zfr. 93 tuned and bolted.

LOL my car revving that high and still having boost at this altitude is comical. she tappers off pretty good after 5500 RPM especially in third. Air is very dense here. That video really isnt fair , to see that acceleration and smoothness of it all. Seems like cyro 445 is where its at . But you got top end done and all revving like that not? My old LNF threw lashes every time it got over 6500 on e85 full boost.

After researching LSD is hard to find stock in a F40.

No LSD and a 6 speed is not what I had in mind ...

ZZP 1,500 for a used one lol . Does that have LSD ? I found brand new gs trans non LSD for 750 new.

so 6 speed conversion is actually 2300, plus 1500 for used f40 , plus shipping misc parts . It adds up fast!

decisions decisions

I'd rather have a 4.45 G85 personally. the 6 speed is nice but I like the 5 speed and the short gears make it a roll monster.

No LSD on the F40 and more cost involved. Gearing very similar to the 4.45 2-3-4-5, longer 1st and add a 6th. I didn't fully trust that a 4.45 wouldn't break at 600whp after a while, and I was looking at $1500-2k to make mine LSD 4.45, so instead I got the whole F40 and conversion for $3250 or so and sold my spare LSD 4.05 for $800, and still have the centerforce dual friction clutch to sell to recoup some. So for breaking about even, it was a no brainer to me. And I was cool with the fact I'd be the first redline with one lol. I wasn't worried about finding the cheapest route that might do the job.

4.45s, zfr, fully bolted, stock top and bottom end, and tuned by term2.

Don't regret breaking my stock trans and getting a 4.45. Gearings damn good and just pulls hard. I was worried about mpgs dying but I went on a trip to Hershey and still managed 35mpg.

Run stage 2 cams and an eblend and you'll be a beast!

Can't wait to see what my build is like with the 4.45, should find out in May when I get tuned.

x2

I'm about 10k into my build, going to spend another 2k in April before finally putting my build together.

I got a used Powell 4.45 lsd with 14k miles for only $1550, thanks to Hockeyman!

I'm not having fueling issues to really get into the cams and there isn't E available around here. Was looking into meth injection, but idk yet. Still having some thoughts about pulling the trigger on a couple things though...

I'm thinking of the 259 kit and a mild build. My buddy already told me he'd buy my turbo, piping, and what not. Lol.

Dude that would be badass! There's a lot of people doing turbo swaps and builds this year

In April once I get the rest of my parts we're going to break in my engine, then in May going to KS to get tuned and get numbers
