50 trim srt4

buddy of mine has a 05 white srt4 with a very extensive mod list with all the bells and whistles, 50 trim turbo, return fuel system, ripp mods dyno tune, coilovers, everything, car made 410hp and 402tq, so we went for a cruise the other day, i wanted to do a 60 roll to see if he'd walk me, so eventually i get him to race, 3rd gear 60 roll up to about 115 - 120 ( he let off before me ) we were dead even till we let off..

is something not right here?

i dynoed 375tq and 339hp .. mods or trifecta 24psi tune, CIA performance charge pipes and CAI with tial bov, and MAF relocate kit, pedders spring, and full exhaust with only a cat on it, its loud ..

he didnt say a word after

But only a peak diff of 27 Torque.
That could explain a good part of this. Need to see the relative torque/HP curves and area under those curves in this rpm range...4000- 6600ish. Basically looking at the AVERAGE HP generated in that range. Also, cars that have much higher peak Torque than HP tend to accelerate quicker than those with equal #s.

Check this out:

Impulse Engines : Performance : More Average Torque

While engine # 1 produces 100 peak horsepower more, engine # 2 produces a lot more torque (useful power) and an average 50 horsepower more than engine # 1. This allows engine # 2 to accelerate the vehicle faster using less peak horsepower. This is reason why engines with more average torque but less peak horsepower produce faster acceleration than engines with more peak horsepower but less average torque and why engines should be measured by how much average torque and horsepower they produce.

Not saying this explains what happened here, but partially explains it.

If he really made that he should waste you. Though a lot of people get the 50 trim only run about 20psi and have killer lag when they could have went with a smaller turbo, made the same power and spooled alot faster.

Who knows anything can happen on the street.

I don't blame him, i wouldn't either. Something aint right with his car, or his shifting was poor and your no-lift-to-shift was perfect.

Yeah..check this video of same set up

60-120 in 7 sec! 60-100 in 4 sec. No way the OPs car could do that.

Driver Mod FTW??

It could really be anything..... I am willing to bet that his car isn't making the same power now that it made on the dyno though.

Not all cars are the same. Tune is a big part of it.. The 50 trim above is about 7 seconds, I know of a vid where it takes a 50 trim 8.5 seconds and I know a smaller turbo that has done it in a touch under 7 seconds (not maxed). Just too much room for error. Say he has a bad tune, didn't break boost and the TC got the jump, sucks at shifting/whatever else could happen, in the real world there is a chance a 340whp TC could edge him out. Though good chance he is making less power than he claims.

More power under the curve combined with better shifting can bring about results like that. Which is why my 400whp, 2900lbs Cobalt put a few cars on my friend's 440whp, 2600lbs RX-7.

Just because you have more power, doesn't mean you're faster.

^ yep, that turbo isn't known for it's powerband. IMO if your not going to use it to push 450-500whp your better off with something smaller. Like my turbo will flow enough for 440-450whp with cams at it spools a lot faster. Anyways driver error can easily eat up 1/2 second or more in a run. Funny for him though, haha

what was the wtq on both vehicles? that doesnt add up he is also lighter or your dynos are wrong or your friend must be a horrible driver.

Which is why I love poking fun of the uneducated "big" turbo guys on here.

Most people that have "50trim" cars don't even use it to the full potential.

Just because they have a "50trim", they all of a sudden think their car has big power. 9 times out of 10, they might make big peak power, but their power curves suck because they don't know what they are doing.

Yours was deff faster than the Hahn swapped one. Was the swap a pretty noticeable diff top end than when you trapped 117 stock turbo?

Honestly yes. Without a doubt. My fastest 60-100 time was 4.8 on the stocker and it did 3.7 on the 252 turbo.

Yes, we never pushed it any further. Once the track closed we were done with the tuning and figured to save it for next year.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I tried 24 psi a little on 110 (though it was on 93 timing) A/F was spot on though. Have to wait till it warms up and I have more money to get things going again.

Any TVS owners have any vids?

Its a Rotary... they make no torque. And his power curve is like a hill, its constantly going up, it doesn't flatten out... where as I hit all my torque right away, and my power rockets up early and then flattens out real nice.

Power under the curve. Just because he's making more PEAK power... doesn't mean he has more AVERAGE power.

i know i use to have an rx8 but it stayed in its powerband longer than alot of cars since it reved to 9.5k rpm but it didnt make power until around 5k but when your roll racing it stayed in those rpms anyway. what mods does your car have to achieve 400whp
