ABS Module
ABS Module
Hello all,
Question. Can you re-program a used ABS module for our cars (09 ss/tc)? Mine took a dump and I found one online for like $150.
Bought it and my scanner can't communicate with it because it's not programed to my vehicles VIN...?
I've read on other group chats (Facebook) that our ABS modules aren't programable? Basically, a one and done.
Meaning, its programed from factory to your specific car and then it's locked. I hope that not the case. I have a programmer coming to the shop
this coming Monday so I'm hoping he can do it. I'll let you guys know what happens.
Anyway, I know this is a dying platform, so I'm hoping for the best.
Has anyone here been able to program the ABS module or am I having to bite the bullet and buy a new one for $500 + programing the unit? Any information would help.
I've tried looking this topic up on the forums posted here, but no luck.
Thanks in advance.

The abs module is known as a Electronic Brake Control Module. You have to get them reprogrammed if its from another car but it has to be done at a dealer, then there is a few setup procedures required to be done after on the tech 2 once its programmed to vin. The issue I would be concerned with is that it not being programmed wont stop the module from communicating with a scanner. You should still be able to look at (depending on your scanners abilities) look at live data and at the minimum, be able to pull the trouble codes. Specifically they will set no vin match or non-configured trouble codes, I would expect C0569 00, C0551 45, or C0551 47. Possibly also C0561 71 to be set. So I would estimate there is another issue going on somewhere, likely wiring, or possibly issue with the scanners ability to read codes on unprogrammed modules (idk what kind of scanner you have).
