Airbox mod

Can anyone give me information on modifying the factory airbox for better and more airflow. I have tried doing a search but no luck.

very simple. remove it, and install k&n intake

Sorry for not mentioning which car. I have a 09 cobalt SS. I do not want to get a complete intake. I bought a K&N drop in filter and want to mod the factory box to improve flow.
