Airbox Mod question

I finally got around to doing my airbox mod today. I hear my BPV and intake a lot more now which is cool. But I have a question... Why do we need to go through all that, why can't we just take off the snorkel and leave the airbox in there without the snorkel? What purpose does sawing it off and screwing it in place serve. Also, why do I need the flanges on the snorkel, Mine barely fit, I had to force the snorkel back into place. If I had sawed off the flanges and sawed of the piece before the bend it'd fit so much easier.

Anyone know the answer to this?

I actually cut up the entire airbox, leaving only the parts that hold it to the car frame. It SEEMS like I have some better throttle response, but it for sure makes changing the filter easier. I haven't noticed any drawbacks from doing this, so you should be safe to remove whatever part of the airbox you want. The results are all the same, increased air flow.

Hey this is Matt M in Utah, I ran my car with the snorkel off for a while as did a lot of others some may still be. I got it put on this last summer with just the screw holding it in did not use a silicone coupler. There are two reasons to leave the remaining amount of snorkel that I can think of one is it brings in a little colder air from slightly outside the engine bay than the box w/o snorkel and maybe will not skew the air flow as much as the box w/o snorkel on ss/tc's Some say that the it get a certain air flow from the snorkel that it needs. Not sure what you mean anout there being flanges on the snorkel unless you mounted it before putting it in that would be very difficult is very easy to attach them with the headlight out and bracket. The screw hole if started before putting it on helps also just not a lot of room for the screw driver at an angle?

I believe you are referring to the velocity stack.
It helps with air flow.
