bad rocker arm/lifter questions

Hey, I've been trying to figure out my misfire issue with my car for a while no with no luck. I had the hood open today explaining the HPF to someone and while the car was idling i could hear the CDFP, but if i put my head by the valve cover i could hear lots of other ticking that sounded like the valves ticking. it was a separate noise from the fuel pump. It's been making that noise for so long i just assumed it was the fuel pump and normal. I'm asking if any other cars have this much ticking from what sounds like the valves or if you think i need new lifters or rocker arms, and how to tell which. and I remember reading that with roller rockers and springs our cars can rev much higher, and details on this? if i am gonna replace anything in the head i will want to upgrade those parts as well. thanks!

I believe the DI injectors also make a small tick when they open/close

prolly a cracked roller. Happened to me twice on the same valve, ended up being a bad spring all is better now.

mine could be an injector i suppose, it seems to be on every cylinder in order, like an injector should be, but i'll have to find another one sometime and listen up.

you'd have a bunch of oil all over if the roller cracked .... fyi for ya.

it'll rise and drop with RPMs too.

^^ Ouch! Well, looks like each case is different ..... they all follow the RPMs though, it's noticable if you rev it up at idle.

yeah, bad roller, not valve cover gasket. I am not really sure what to make of my misfiring. what should i look for if i visually inspect the rocker arms to check for damage?

This kind of stuff. You may have to tap the ignition a couple times to get the rollers to roll around. Make sure you turn the key back or it will try and keep starting. I dont know why the hell GM didnt put solid roller in there instead of the **** needle bearings

Just one the first time. We had ordered all 8 for the exhaust side and 8 lifters, but just that one was bad. Within 2 weeks the same valve had it happen again, changed the spring along with the roller and have had no problem thus far.
