Would it be worth it to get a stock one and have custom aluminum end tanks welded to it? Or is the core just not good enough to flow what these aftermarket ones do?

ZZP sells them as a package (intercoller + charge pipes $749.99)

Everyone says the charge pipes are good.

My mpx is awesome, doesnt hang below the bumper and my iat's are usually only about 5-10* above ambient. Fit and finish was pretty good as well, except for the end tanks where the pipes mount. Those where about a 1/2 inch to small, BUT i have heard they fixed that on the newer ones!! Fit was fine, bumper went on with no problem at all!! As far as people talking about the end tank design, well my opionion i thought it was well designed. I have had it on the car since last christmas time with no problems at all. Thats my review for it

Stock IC, stock CP /thread

Has anyone actually blown their stock IC using while using the stock CP? Every story i've heard about the IC bursting is with aftermarket charge pipes.

I'm lowered with 47k summer and winter without any problems so far *crosses fingers*.

i blew my stock charge piping on the bsr tune. plastic is a weak link when it comes to a pressurized air system....there is always the possibility that something will give

Wait you blew your charge pipes? I wouldn't even think that was easily possible... The charge pipes appear to be a flexible polypropylene which will flex before breaking- The end caps on the Intercooler appear to be a glass filled nylon which is very strong and rigid material but will crack under the right conditions. So yes... the endcaps on the IC are the weakspot but with stock charge pipes it should be fine because the stock charge pipes will flex therefore relieving stress on the IC caps... Not the same case with rigid aftermarket charge pipes.

Part of the problem with the stock IC is that there is the condensation bar which hangs low. If you take a hit on that, the end tanks will likely crack. I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Remove the condensation bar, and epoxy the holes. It will last much longer that way.

I agree w/ RHZ. Ever since they added the additional mount point for the hot side pipe, I don't think anyone has cracked one. I would be very surprised if that happened. However, the hot side pipe has the flattening, which isn't great.

i noticed that STUPID stock charge pipe design flattening out and made of plastic having random routing as well... that was the first thing i changed.... im pushing 27psi and so far no problem with the stock intercooler but thats until i get an aftermarket one M-dub recommended MPx and thats probably what im going with or ZZP if someone thinks that MPx would have a issue cooling down the air in a larger EFR turbo application

The MPx Intercooler looks good. It has good ground clearance and claims to have good fitment. I have a MPx downpipe and their customer service was good. From reading, the ZZP sounds good, but the clearance was the issue (although I believe they have a newer version, but don't know if it's available yet). Using stock charge pipes for now.

The zzp IC is on the fastest cobalts on the forums.

I like to support the vendors that support the community with more than just offering bolt on's. This is why I choose ZZP because they have a Cobalt they test on. They have the best results; How many vendors do you see spending time testing on their own cars and posting track videos? none. I would rather give my money to a company that works hard for our community than to one that only has bolt on's to make money. ZZP has the best products and is more beneficial to our community and until a competitor steps up their game and shows a car on the track with results, then ZZP will always be the top vendor for these cars.

i support vendors with everything that ive purchased for my car. MPx has their own "shop" cobalt and TTR is always giving us deals to test new products and report back what is going on with them to see if there needs to be improvements or what. I agree ZZP is a great company who offers many options but i wouldnt take away from other vendors just because they dont have as much invested as ZZP, you want competition for an all out better product that is cheaper. i applaud ZZP with what theyre doing for the community, with the upgraded IC design i will most likely buy ZZPs now.

Truth, I vote this setup. They finally listened to Most of the community and made a great IC that fits and doesnt hang below the bumper. Its probably the least of a headache to install out of all the ICs out there. I would have gotten this one but Treadstones was the right price with the right ground clearance.

Ugh. Don't get me started on that POS. Genuine Saab has a different idea of "fit" than most people.

I understand that. The point I was trying to make was it seems like some vendors make a few bolt-ons and that's it. So they just take the money run knowing they are not going to invest in anymore products. With a company like ZZP I know they are gonna use the profits to R&D new toys so I'd rather feed the Beast that is actively helping our community.

I had the Injen Hotside piping on my last balt and now have the Hahn and I must say that I never installed charge piping before on a cobalt and put my injen on faster than I can put the hahn on after I had already had practice with the injen. Plus the injen cp has a more direct route out of all pipes and it has a mount on the piping to mount it to the engine and keep it from rubbing on stuff. I havent had the zzp but since it uses the original coupler routes, it should be pretty good and the least strain on anything.

I have crazy steves intercooler. It sits high. My car is pretty damn low. I dont have to worry about it hitting anything. Was cheap too and works just fine.
