Apicia, you take REALLY good care of your car. It's very clean and pristine. I can tell the kind of guy you are with your car, so listen when I say this: DO NOT BUY THE GENUINE SAAB INTERCOOLER. Being particular about your car, even more so than me, I can tell you that you will be completely dissatisfied with the fitament. Here are some pics of the areas where it rubs. For some, they say it fits, but I saw this IC on my car and on another that belongs to a member on here, and he had the same clearance issues that I had.

Stay away from that hunk of garbage.

Raise your hand if you've seen a Hahn IC blow up on the stock turbo. :raises hand:

Its a name with a big cost. that is all. end tanks are welded and not cast if I remember correctly.

Just cause it blew on your might mean you just got a bad one cause my boy has one crashed the front twice and it's the only thing that held I got it on mine now and I run my car a lot and still hasn't blown and my boy raced a lot too

Anything is better than the stock fiberglass endtanks. I was going to buy the new revised clearance ZZP, but there is no stock right now. I ordered the MPx.

I am researching the charge pipes on both sides of the intercooler (turbo to cooler/cooler to TB).

I heard some people blew their stock charge piping. I wonder which side and where it blows?

The MPX IC, at first, was coming with the inlet and outlet pipes too small for the stock IC tubes. I don't know if they fixed that or not. You'll have to ask someone who has the MPX unit. There are very few people on here that have cracked their stock piping, it that's what you're talking about, but it is always the hotside and it splits along the seam, up near the valve cover, at that flattened spot.

btw, thank you for not buying the POS that is the Genuine Saab IC.

Hahn is for the best buck? I don't get it. Their IC fits no better than ours, offers no ground clearance increase, has had some failures, performs slightly less, and costs twice as much.

wow, zzp's website got updated, looks good. I don't see the option for the "shorter" intercooler anymore? But I will be going with a zzp IC when the time and money are right.

I still say treadstone tr8. High quality, reliable, very affordable, not gynormous like most other aftermarket fmic. Bigger is not always better.

Please forgive me for sounding rude but, why did you guys even market an IC that hangs below the bumper like that? Did it not cross your minds that people would hit them with lowered cars?? Am I mistaken here and has no one actually trashed one from the clearance issue?

Personally, that **** woulda been back in the box and on its way back to Michigan if I bought it and saw the fitment. I am VERY impressed with the new one though. Shoulda been like that from the start.

We designed our IC for maximum performance and built it strong to withstand some abuse. So far, we have had exactly 0 intercoolers get sent back broken or reported broken.(not including one that was in an accident) It hangs about 1/8" below the plastic bumper cover and at least 2" higher than the plastic air dam.

FWIW, the IC we used to include in our twincharge kits before we had these made sat about an inch lower than our LNF IC and we had 0 reports of them getting damaged as well.

Basically, what I am saying is that the problem that some people seem to dwell on does not actually even exist.

I will be buying the zzp intercooler and only zzp products I have several ZZP products already. I had the mpx intercooler and yes the pipes are small, Why go to the bother of putting 2.5 in charge pipes on to then just go down to 2'' intercooler pipes and it hangs real low bottomed out twice second time it was smashed beyond repair the streets here are made with drainage systems planned for big floods.

Thanks for replying. That's great to hear. Guess the worry is unnecessary.

seriously i think people need to learn to drive.. idk how the hell people keep ripping their intercoolers off... stay away from curbs and crap and be more aware of the roads around.

theres some i can understand for some of the people that chimed in here like wangspeed that have off track incidents here or the occasional animal that runs out in front of u butas of right now except treadstone ALL of the aftermarket intercoolers hang slightly below. some better then others. the werks street intercooler is slightly below the lip(which when i get my car situated will probablly get revised so its above the lip and the race intercooler is above the lip but you cannot use the factory bumper beam with it(not recommended for street use even though i can attest to it lasting in an accident first hand). zzps intercooler is the only other intercooler i would personally run.

hahn i have seen failures with and most of them are split welds or fitment issues causing cracks. genuine saab i have seen numerous fitment issues, cant comment on mpx or turbo xs. treadstone makes a nice piece just dont like the silicone elbow design.

They come with aluminum elbows. The treadstone.

I believe their IC is a good 1/4 mi track IC. Too me the hanging part throws me off too for my daily driver. If it werent for that clearance issue, I'd be on that IC like a Bum on a ham sandwich.

The new design IC they came out with wasnt even a fart in the wind when I bought my IC

If it were, I'd probably have gotten it instead. But too date so far, the TRE 8 is holding up pretty good.
