I did well over 1000 NLS on my stock clutch from track work. Never had an issue. Then I slipped it too much during a little drag race, and it kept slipping after that, so now I have KY stage 2.5, and stopped NLS. Definitely miss doing NLS.

my trans messed up. It shifts hard from 2-3 like a syncro is bad. Then if i try to downshift in any gear it doesnt want to downshift. The shop is saying its something in the trans and suggest getting a new trans. I was thinking it was a syncro. Need experienced opinions

Have you checked the simple stuff first?

Shift cables
Shift bracket on trans
Trans fluid at proper level (when car is level on ground)

Well I guess I should try the NLS now BEFORE I put my new SPEC Stage 3+ Clutch and Aluminum Flywheel on lol. I just want to try it once to see how it feels, The one thing I do hate about Turbo cars since switching from s/c is the lag from switching gears, it takes a second or so until you reach full boost once a gear is shifted, Didnt have that issue with my s/c.

Nls makes a marked difference. You lose no acceleration at all. Its too bad you really shouldn't use it past gms1 power.

so using the lsj 6speed is better?
probably make it harder to drive in the lower gears wouldnt it with all the power in short gearing?

Just curious what an LSJ 6 speed is? I've only heard of the quaife 6 speed which they didn't really put into production ( I wish they did because I would buy that right now). I heard someone on here talking about doing an f40 6 speed conversion but it's too hard or can't be done?

you talking about the tranny in the saab 9-3 2.0t?
that thing isn't going to hold anywhere near the power the lsj getrag will.

With all the issue with our stock maybe Matt and the gang at zzp will come up with a better alternative? Auto.. Maybe they are already looking in to it I hope. It will be $$pensive but peace of mind for you drag racers pushing over 500+whp.

so nobody answered my question yet. the tranny out of an lsj is 6spd correct? then how is that better for our cars with shorter gearing on the turbo? seems like it would just blow the tires off till 4th instead of 3rd in our tranny...lol

They already have 2 solutions. An auto or a 4.45 geared F35 tranny.

i think it'd just be better to get our tranny's cryo'd as opposed to swapping the final drive. thoughts?

As far as I know, they don't have other option except the 4.45 swap at lease that's what Tim said back in April? They can try to make a custom stronger auto but from the sounds of it, it will be expensive.

it's not about horsepower - it's about torque.

The F35 (the LSJ & LNF transmission) is the highest torque rated FWD manual transmssion GM has (or had?) used to date...

compare torque numbers;
2.0 S/C - M62 Power!!
2. ebristol 303whp, 273wtq
3. stealthy1ss 291whp/248wtq
4. ncstateredline 289whp, 262wtq
5. jamies06ss/sc, 284whp, 249wtq,
6. skatin boarding 279whp, 258wtq
7. smthomas556 279whp, 247wtq
8. BoostedYards86 276whp 248wtq
9. startingline05 274whp, 252wtq
10. OntarioKev 273whp,267wtq

2.0 T/C - K04 Power!!
2. Frogstofall, 362whp, 376wtq,
3. raver0789 359whp, 408wtq
4. FF_ace 351whp, 393wtq
5. Cavalierssr 350whp, 439wtq
6. mongorat427, 349whp, 363wtq,
7. BYT*SS*TURBO 347whp, 414wtq
8. 2010SS 346whp, 426wtq Verified
9. JBThrasher22, 346whp, 399wtq
10. 09BlueBaltSS 344whp, 384wtq
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/dyno...2012-a-272372/

Roughly 100 ft/lbs difference between the engines.

and both the LSJ & LNF versions of the F35 have the same gear set - the only difference is the final drive ratio;
2005-2007 Cobalt SS/SC (LSJ) & 2008-2010 HHR/SS (LNF) = 4.05:1 FDR
2008-2010 Cobalt SS/TC (LNF) = 3.82:1 FDR

F35 transmission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IIRC the 4.45:1 FDR was developed through GM for when they took the SS/SC racing ~ but I'm not entirely sold on it...
Both ZZP & Powell can set someone up - but I think ZZP bought alot of the remaining gears from GM.

so i guess the lsj/hhr or stage 1 zzp with the 4.05 is the better of the options?
which just makes the gears a little longer correct?

I seem to recall that making a numerically higher FDR in a FWD transmission amplifies torque capacity issues (becasue of it essentially amplifying the torque)...
But that being said, this is what many here seem to do.... and it seems to work - so *shrug*

going with lower gearing essentially make your gear spreads wider...

3.82 x 1.76(2nd) = 6.1952
3.82 x 1.18(3rd) = 4.5076
4.5076 / 6.1952 = 27.2% gear drop for the 2nd to 3rd gear change

4.05 x 1.76(2nd) = 7.128
4.05 x 1.18(3rd) = 4.779
4.779 / 7.128 = 32.9% gear drop for the 2nd to 3rd gear change

maybe this will help some...

4.05 would be shorter than a 3.82.
