Broken Waste Gate Actuator Rod

So I have had some boosting problems with my car as of late. If anyone has read my other thread. The boost was coming on a bit slower then normal and seemed to be down about 2 psi or so in total. After awhile , the car just stopped producing boost at all. Not a single psi. So I started looking at things today. And I found that my waste gate actuator rod has snapped in half. The penny door itself on the turbo is totally free. It opens and closes with one finger once and easily. A tad squeaky. But seems to be zero resistance in opening and closing the door itself on the turbo. It just looks like the rod out of the actuator snapped in half just before the first bolt that holds the door to the rod. I have no idea how that could be snapped in half. Has anyone ever had something like that happen before ? And I wonder if the rod breaking in half is the cause of my slower spool before it just all out broke. Any thoughts ?

Didn't read this before I replied on your other post. Yes, if the wastegate rod is broken, the flapper can just open venting exhaust gas. This prevents the turbine from spinning, prevents the compressor from spinning, prevents making any boost.

Interesting. Cant say ive heard of it before but glad you found your problem. Hopefully you can find a wastegate actuator pretty cheap.

Id have to say its probably a heat related/cyclical loading failure, there really isnt a ton of mechanical stress on that rod but it probably weakened over time.

If I were you, I would look to see if you can find a replacement off of eBay or the like. There are tons listed.

Best of luck man.

The bolts and everything are intact. The rod itself snapped in half. It just broke the day I made the thread about the broken arm itself. So only about 3 or 4 days ago. What has happened is the arm that comes out of the turbo has two pivot points. One right at the turbo. And the other at the opposite end of the arm right below where the bolts go threw that hold the waste gate rod in place. When the second pivot point seized up. It caused the rod to bend a bit. Also I would say it was causing the door to be just partially open. Causing my slower spool and slightly lower boost levels. Then eventually the rod couldn't take the bending pressure anymore and snapped in half. I already have a brand new wastegate from gm . It will be going on tomorrow morning at 10 AM.

Can you tell me where this is located? I think my Wastegate Actuator isn't functioning properly either. I get a high pitched whistle from 10-0 vacuum and you can feel it surge and loose the boost. So I want to check to see if my Actuator isn't closing properly or opening properly but I have no idea where the hell it's located.
