Angry Car Wont Start Help!!!

Ok, I don't drive my car in the winter months. I have it covered sitting in the driveway but i start it every 2 or 3 weeks and let it run a while. Today I tried to start it up and when i turned the key it had prob turning over. I kept trying and finally it sounded like it was going to start it started and ran for about 5 sec and died. even when i tried to rev. it the car putted and shut off. It sounded like a loud bang when i tried to get it to start running and the motor was shaking all over the place.I also looked under the car because it did not smell right and the pipe before the Cat converter was red and hot! I took the batt. out and put it on a charger and put it back in the car but still did it. All the lights and stuff work on the car and the chimes. I also installed a AEM Intake and I know i hooked it all up right it was very easy but still nothing. I cant get the car started and its annoying me big time. Please I need help I cant get it started and I dont know what to do!!!!!

I dont see any animals or nest and none of the wires look like then been chewed through. Also the maf oriented only goes in one way right because when you put it in the whole the screw holes only match up one way. it sounds like it tries so hard to start and it sounds like a tank is coming and only start up for a sec.

And yes i left it sit on for a day on a slow charger and I know it sucks i try to start it up as often as I can and its just reg oil.

just regular oil, dude i dont mean plug in the batt, i mean get urself a oilpan heating pad or block heater if u can find one. sitting in the cold on just regular oil without having some kind of block heater or oil pan heater, no wonder its doing that.

once at work i didnt plug in my car, it got to -30 and even with sythetic oil, when i started my car, i thought it was gonna fall apart it vibrated so bad.

Hmmm.... with the exhaust getting red hot like that it sounds like WAY too much fuel in there for some reason. It was probably burning in the exhaust as well and having trouble igniting because of not having enough oxygen for the amount of fuel in the cylinders.

That's my .02 anyway. Because neither the battery being low OR being so cold would cause the exhaust to get red hot like that. Unless maybe the cam phasers being so starved of oil allowed the already burning mixture to escape. That could be too I suppose.

Has it started yet? If so, ran ok now?

I still cant get it started and is still doing the same thing. It smells like something is burning thought. i checked the oil in the car and it looks fine. I put it away Nov. 1 and i tried to start it like every other week for about 30 minuets or so. The Batt. should be fine its a 2008 and has never had a prob with the Batt. I'm running out of ideas what to do.....

Are you modded?

I'd just call up the dealer, explain to them it won't start. Tell them to come tow it and figure out what's wrong.
Do you still have warranty? I have an 08 and passed the 36K bumper to bumper already. oops

check ur ECU. make sure no water or anything got in the wires that go into the ECU. If its that cold in your garage. just in case. check ur plugs. go over things that can make a rough idle like that. reg oil is no good. full synthetic man. what octane you have in your car? check nothing got into your turbo. any oil leaks anywhere?

just going over ideas.

Pipe at cat getting red hot is detenation. Somehow fuel is getting in there and igniting. I had same problem in my A4 1.8t when I had a coil plug go out and it started detenation in the cat.

At idle I cant imagine it able to run lean/rich enough to make the exhaust that hot. Sounds like an exhaust obstruction.

put it into a warm place and then see what happens. the other day i got snow in my forklift intake, it wouldnt start after that, tried to turn it over and over, then there was a loud ass backfire that made everyone **** their pants in the shop, and still nothing. turns out the spark plugs were wet from the snow and blew out. changed em, ran rough for a bit, then it ran just fine, try changing the spark plugs and see what happens.
