power underestimation?

Do anyone think our balt sstc's are underestimed in power? Is it possible we run about 280 crank instead of 260? And now with my gms1 kit installed I am also thinkin this tune is also much more powerful than suggested. 280 stock with 305 on gms1? Think its possible???

If I remember correctly some people dynoed in there stock SS/TC's around 240-250WHP so the 260 Crank HP number is perhaps a tad bit underrated.

As for the GMS1 the guys are dynoing at ~275WHP so that's closer to 300HP at the crank. And 320ish ft/lbs of torque at the crank.

I also think they are under rated....Bone stock I put down 256 whp on the dyno last year.

You guys also have to remember that dyno's aren't going to be exact. You would need someone who knew exactly what there hp was dyno with you and compare. not to mention the air quality/temp effects this as well.

If you look at the stock tune you will see they are restricted. GM underrated them from the Factory. I know this for a fact.

They are SAE certified to be 260. I may have that wrong, maybe it's not SAE. LOL!!!!! But dammit, they are certified for 260 by a third party. I don't think many companies have them certified for power. Which means GM HAS to ensure that AT LEAST 260 is there every time. Therefore, I also believe they are underrated but probably not like the 20 hp some might be thinking. Maybe 5-10 hp varying car to car.

Just my opinion...

you guys have to remember that dynos are not all the same, dyno jet reads high and a mustang dyno reads very low, the most accurate dyno is the one that they take of the wheels and put the machine into the brakes etc. most likely GM did it in one of those... who knows

lol it is SAE rated - the engine sits on an engine dyno (read - no car, just engine), its not rated by GM, they arent fudging the numbers - they used industry standard third-party rating.

You could easily make a dyno read 1000 whp on a stock LNF.

I read a couple of reviews before buying the car that stated they put it on the dyno and got just over 260hp at the rear wheel... but as mentioned above, dyno results will vary a LOT

I've heard this occurring with the SS/SC's.

Most put down 240 whp 250 wrtq SAE corrected stock. We have approx 10% driveline loss which means ~264 crank HP and 275 crank torque.

That's pretty good for rear wheels, mine won't even turn on their own.

the vast majority of dynos i see of LNFs are at 240whp +/- 5, which is only 8% DT loss
15% would be 223whp and 12% would be 230whp

I believe the power is under estimated by chevy. My stock HP and torque was 250/250 and that equates to about 280 crank hp.

your numbers assume a ~11% loss, it should be noted

Keep in mind, many dyno's often overestimate... there are some pretty generous dyno's out there, HP results vary quite a bit. Also, it is nothing new for GM, many of their sport cars over the years have been found to be close to the crank output, so everyone says "underestimated". I think everyone likes to believe their car is underestimated, every car forum has a thread similar to this one.

Its hard to cheat the SAE J1394 which the LNF is certified to.

http://www.sae.org/certifiedpower/details.htm

Of course the goal is to make sure that the engines make at least the advertised HP, but it also makes it so engines aren't significantly underrated. Something like 98% of the engines need to make at least 260 hp, if you use a normal distribution the average HP will be over 260.
